What are some reasonably priced derailer cables? I had one explode on me tonight?

Your cable exploded?
I never heard of that. Could you define the explosion?
I would think that any good LBS should have some quality ss cables that should work fine. Don't ask what I have on my bikes because I have no idea.

I pulled the derailer and the plastic housing completely shattered at a 6 inch section where there is a bend in the cable. It wasn't cold outside. The inner cable just shattered the plastic cable housing and all the outer covering fell off. I have never had this happen before.
