Dunno id this has already beed posted.

I herd this the other day and couldnt believe it, man this is crazy, i know some pretty heavy granola eaters, but they all think this is screwed up.

"now that thev baned all holidays, there off to the histroy books."

A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God -- including the Declaration of Independence.

Steven Williams, a fifth-grade teacher at Stevens Creek School in the San Francisco Bay area suburb of Cupertino, sued for discrimination on Monday, claiming he had been singled out for censorship by principal Patricia Vidmar because he is a Christian.

Williams asserts in the lawsuit that since May he has been required to submit all of his lesson plans and supplemental handouts to Vidmar for approval, and that the principal will not permit him to use any that contain references to God or Christianity.

Among the materials she has rejected, according to Williams, are excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, George Washington's journal, John Adams' diary, Samuel Adams' "The Rights of the Colonists" and William Penn's "The Frame of Government of Pennsylvania."

"He hands out a lot of material and perhaps 5 to 10 percent refers to God and Christianity because that's what the founders wrote," said Thompson, a lawyer for the Alliance Defense Fund, which advocates for religious freedom. "The principal seems to be systematically censoring material that refers to Christianity and it is pure discrimination."

I heard about this the other day on CNN, the news report I saw certainly spun it to sound like he was trying to proseletize to his students. Of course who knows what to believe... if this report is true then the principle is a nazi cow, if CNN is true then she is just preventing preaching christianity in public school. I hate the news.

You cannot deny that christianity has played a huge part in the history of the US, at times positive and at times negative, and to exclude it would be a crime against the students. I have never heard of anyone criticize history teachers for including this information before, which makes me suspicious that perhaps the teacher was pushing christianity... or maybe the principle is just a bitch. I could see how you could covertly proseletize with history... "look how great george washington was... btw, he stood on christian values...." kind of thing. The funny thing is I went to a christian school and my history teacher loved to point out the flaws of our "Christian" founding fathers, the crimes perpetrated by the church in the US relating to slavery, ect.

C'mon, this guy is not just getting in trouble for showing the declaration of Independence to his students...otherwise she'd be censoring other teachers in the same way.

I'd like to see the other side of the story here. Methinks Mr. Williams isn't coming totally clean here (and does anyone else get creeped out by male primary school teachers, or is it just me?)

Hey I teach primary school kids and I'm not a creep....much :help: :D
I don't know about in America but in Australia the lack of male teachers in primary schools is a big problem. A lot of kids complete their primary schooling without ever having a male teacher. This is not so much a problem for girls but it's not real good for boys who tend to need the guidance of male role models. The various education departments in Australia are really looking at ways to get more male teachers into the primary schools. Obviously they can't be paid more than their female counterparts so it's a bit of a problem.
