im considering a gemini DH for the 2005 season and there are a few questions I have. I was on a gemini last season and I loved it but it was not a DH. Does the 7.1 in the rear feel like enough? Where there any situations where you noticed the bike getting thrown around a lot? Also did the longer chainstays affect your cornering ability and was the bike stable enough on the rough open sections? Also was it hard to get small bump sensitivity out of the swinger due to the ultra low leverage ratio?

thanks any info would be apreciated.

Hello.

The Gemini DH is awesome. I've been riding mine since mid-July, and I couldn't be happier with it. Now to answer your questions:

It has more than enough travel. I've never bottomed it, and any more travel would detract from the bike's nimble handling characteristics.

The bike is very stable in rough sections, yet it is also very nimble and handles extremely well. It basically feels like a long-travel slalom bike, it's that easy to ride.

As far as small bump performance, it all has to do with shock setup, which takes a lot of trial and error. I weigh about 200 lbs, and I only have about 80 psi in the shock, with a stock spring and the low speed compression dial turned in about 1/2 turn. The bike is meant to be run with a lot of sag (in the 40% range). This lowers the bottom bracket and slackens the head angle, making the bike much more stable. With this setup you sacrifice pedaling efficiency, but it's a DH bike, so it's not a big deal, and the small bump performance is impeccable.

PM me if you have any more questions, I'd be glad to help you out.

Hi,
I raced a Gemini DH all last season and i loved it. The bike handles very well and has near perfect geometry when set up right. Without the proper amount of sag the bike's bottom bracket feels very high, but when the rear shock is dialed in the bike feels great. I did a ton of experimenting with the shock and found that running almost no SPV feels the best to me. Although you do sacrafice some of the peadling performance, the small bump is much more important. I also loved the way this bike felt in the air. It jumps great. I am selling my Gemini in the buy and sell forum on this sight. PM me if you have questions abut the Gemini in general or about the one i am selling.
