HaHA, you're stinky!

Just kiddin'.

I was hoping one of you Kona gurus would explain the workings of the rear suspension on a Stinky. Specifically I'm wondering about the frame being coupled with a BETD plates. I've heard on the stock frame there is a progressive position and a more linear position. Is this true? If so, which is which? What about the two positions on the swingarm? They give 5'' and 6'' right? What about leverage?

Please inform me about this as I'm feeling very dumb.
Thanks Stinky riders,

George

Travel Depends on what year frame you have.:
5" 2000ish-2002
6" 2003-2004 (I think 04 was still 6")

If you put the shock in the setting closest to the fork, you get a more linear rate of travel.

If you put the shock in the setting closer to the rear wheel, you get a more progressive rate of travel (wheel path is slightly altered)

This is true whether you use the Stock Plates or the BETD Plates. Again depending on frame year, and the specific BETD plates you use, you can get anywhere from 1"-2" more travel.

You'd be better off getting your rear shock setup properly or getting a better performing shock than what comes stock on those bikes (unless its a fox rc, or newish fox shock)

Konas are very strong bikes, beat them up!

The leverage on a stock 2003 stinky is 3.0:1, that's a 2-in shock netting 6 inches of travel. Bacardi is right about the lower shock mount postions, the progressive one (rear hole) definitely has a different feel than the front, linear hole. I like the progressive hole for drops/stunts and the linear for fast downhill.

I know you can get dangerboy plates to get 1 inch more travel with a 26 in the rear and 2 more inches of travel with a 24 in the rear (two different holes in the plates). And that's with a stock shock length, I think.

Edit- I just visited dangerboy's site and guess what- they're not making suspension plates anymore. Lame-o.
