Livin it up in the O.C.
Want a tow-behind, not a van. The van's all set up with my bikes and gear.

I would not want a Sprinter - all the campers based on them that I have seen are very cramped inside and they seem to rust out about a year and a day after people buy them. I think they're built with tin plated cheese.

Also, I have a female riding friend who I travel with but don't sleep with; that wouldn't work very well in a van...

Oxymoron...

Fits perfectly in the back corner. I actually have enough room for a full counter. Still need to sand and paint, but that bitch is together.

Next is mounting and start insulating. Progress.

So the upper ball mount instructions were less than ideal resulting in a misaligned bed closure. Talking to an engineer at the shop, I might be able to adjust it to work, otherwise I get to make another set of bed sides.

At least he agreed the instructions were less than ideal as well.

I was able to plan out the framing of the drivers side and will have it framed out and insulated next weekend.

Flying down to San Diego in the morning to pick up the god.damn.campin.van.

Plan is to head for Death Valley for a night before meandering back north via Utah and Idaho.

Is that a powered front axle bolted to the brotastic wheels?

So do to the whole lack of paycheck, no construction occurred this weekend. I did drive Frita to North Portland and got newish tires. They look brand new, I am so happy. $650 for 6 mounted and balanced. The fronts are Continentals that Google had for $380-$420 each. Serious score and the ride is amazing.

The guess on the old set was 28-30 years old. With almost new tread. The odometer say 98k, it may not have rolled yet. The engine was new in '93, the truck is a '78. This 4BT diesel might have less than 50k on it. I can't wait!

3 weekends, this bitch will be rolling.

My back hurts. Drivers side framed out and sound deadener installed. I used 1" x 1/4" stainless lag bolts with rubber washers to secure the header. Liquid Nails Fuze It was the best rated.

Glad I didn't get to mounting the window as I decided not to put it there. Well, I am putting it there, just lower. I put it the same height as the passenger side. But with no counter on the drivers side, it made sense to go seated height. So about a foot lower, maybe? I will remeasure next weekend.

I still need a door but I hope to frame out the passenger side next weekend. We are supposed to go to Eugene at the end of the month, so I am trying to get it framed and insulated at least. Electrical would be a bonus.

What kind of build does the interior have, what engine, drivetrain?
Right now we just have a basic bed platform built and a swivel on the passenger seat. We are planning to rebuild the bed into something convertible into a couch setup. Van has the V10. The 4WD conversion was done by Agile Offroad, who uses a TTB setup out of a 99 F-250.

Sounds similar to the one that's caught my eye, but it has the 7.3 powerstroke.
