Trying to decide where to head tomorrow for a few days, wild fires and smoke is making planning which direction to head difficult :(

In the afternoon of 08/17/20, while traveling on US-395 near the Secret Valley Rest Area, the driver of a motorhome, for unknown reasons, allowed his vehicle to drift to the left off the roadway. The vehicle struck the hillside bordering US-395. The impact caused the entire body of the motorhome to separate from the chassis. The body of the motorhome, including the driver who was still seatbelted in the driver's seat, tipped over on its side onto US-395. Both the body and chassis continuted sliding on the roadway before finally coming to a stop in the lanes of US-395.
Amazingly, no injuries were sustained to the driver! The motorhome, however, made need a little attention....

Obviously you're referring to the oregon plates and not the vehicle.
Every time I drive outside of Washington or Oregon I am reminded that not everyone seems to think they are of royal descent where the road is their birthright where all others must bend to their will.

Seems safe.

Tested the party train the last two weeks. Success. One random exploding tempered glass window that committed suicide while stationary at camp but lexan was an hour away.

Then the 5 state smoke show rolled in

I find that funny as a California resident. Pnw drivers are oblivious. Ca drivers are straight up malicious.

OR drivers are a unique race of just fucking clueless putters. It really is something special.
i am still trying to figure out why colorado drivers can't drive for shit in the rain but will drive 100 mph in the left lane in a blizzard...

bro!

AWD Subie!

Head and bed clearance on the egg shell is right at 6'2". As in a buddy of mine who's 6'2" just barely fits inside and laying down on the beds.

I really really like that 08 2500 I bought. Cheap and very practical for the things I do. If it got better mileage I'd probably drive it a bunch more.

This is what I want right now, but no way we could afford it. Maybe in 3 years...

Those are really bad ass, but there is no way I could ever justify that price tag. Maybe in 2-3 years they will be like new, used twice for half price. But even half price is still twice what I could justify.

Exactly. But the improvements they have made in the electrical/etc make them vastly more attractive than even three years ago. But maybe the older ones can be updated with better batteries/etc? I freaking love the drop down bed. You could work on bikes inside in the rain with the bed up...

Woo needs to rent my house so I can boondock like a 1% -er....

Picked up another ARE commercial canopy for my truck - after I sold the old canopy and the tonneau cover my f150 came with - I am into the "new" one for 300 bucks! Best solo incognito travel camper ever!

There is definitely something to be said for cheap and stealth. Mo’ money, mo’ problems, and all of that...
I have had a pickup truck with a shell of some kind since ‘83...

That would actually look really out of place boondocking out here, everyone would just assume you were a plumber on vacation. Especially if you had out of state plates.
On a city street, however...

Li-ion + solar array seems clearly the way to go for a Class B sized vehicle when boondocking.

Dude, with the bed up in mine I have a damn dance floor. I told the wife a floor mount bike stand would fit perfect and could stow under the upright bed when not in use.

The Murphy bed is cheaper and zero maintenance.

I don't see the problem. :D

Lots of sledders have been converting school buses to setups like that. Driving those things in snow seems dumb as shit to me. Plus getting sleds up onto those two upper levels looks like a parking lot catastrophe waiting to happen.

That's not a school bus. That's a full class 8 truck with floaters on the probably 20k rated front axle.

Ok, you left yourself some linguistic wiggle room with "converting school buses to setups like that". Like that could mean any wheeled contraption with a box and sled bay things.

Who knew? I just tried using wet drier sheets (bounce) on the bug splats covering my camper. You wet the splats and the drier sheet then rub the wet sheets over the bug splats and let it sit for a few minutes. Light rub with a scrub pad and rinse. The splats are gone with almost zero effort...awesome
