that thing scales at over 6500 pounds. you need a F550 0r 5500 dually with 19.5 commercial tires to handle the load
4801 dry. Seems like the gasser F-350 DRW should be ok with it. These figures are after accounting for 150 lbs per belted seat in the cab. F-450 has the diesel standard and gets hit a bit by that.

the guys on the FB truck camper board that own them report that the dry weight includes zero options, no water, no propane or empty tanks, no options ( including required option packages ,which makes no sense). Every one of them report that they have cat scaled at over 6000 pounds ready to camp.

go to the bottom of the review for actual weights https://www.truckcampermagazine.com/camper-reviews/2017-eagle-cap-1200-review/

I tuned out in that review early on. So they did discuss weights and trucks at the end! :D

The 7.3 looks like a good compromise to gain payload while still being strong.

Not “camping” by my, or most on the Monkeys definition but it’s what the wife wanted to do for Mother’s Day. Carpenteria State Beach, if you can get over the fact that there’s a lot of people and it’s essentially a parking lot, it’s actually a pretty cool spot. Wife had fun, kid had fun, dogs had fun, even I had fun, and fixed my screwed up shoulder blade

After 800mg ibuprofen every 4 hours for a couple months, all it took was a quick nap on the asphalt with a little extra weight smooshing me, and the pain is gone, arms no longer numb, dogs are actually useful

Seems like a lot of headaches ultimately, especially those unique to the utility bed.

At what point do you just buy a regular RV and get a decent car to tow behind it, or hell get a toter-home. For what that Dodge plus the camper costs I’m sure you’re into lightly used Freightliner territory, and that those are so much easier to drive than a stupid 16k lb Dodge is going to be.

the point of a truck camper is :

1. if you can park there you are camped. TC's fit into placed that the big boys can't

2. you can tow a boat or a horse trailer or utility trailer and still have a vehicle that can separate from the camper to go places

3. Four wheel drive

4. you can winter camp with no exposed plumbing to freeze.

What kind of outdoor burners do you guys use to cook on? We cant decide if a regular burner, or a griddle or a grille is best. Ideally we want something that mimics a home stove... so we can boil water, etc...
