I wonder if the frame cracks had more to do with the way the weight was distributed, rather than the total load. As in, way too much weight cantilevering beyond the rear wheels. Let’s be honest, trucks all over the planet exceed their towIng and payload ratings all the time, and there is presumably a factor of safety used when calculating those figures.

Exactly. It’s not as the 55-6,000lbs was setting directly over the rear axle on a pallet.
I would highly doubt that his insurance will pay a dime. Installing a camper, driving 25k miles and subsequently having the frame fail due to a cantilevered load ain’t quite sudden and accidental.

He should consider a chassis stretch so this doesn’t happen again. I mean, he is out of warranty now.

A 6.7-equipped SRW Ram is going to have great towing capacity, but poor payload. Need the 6.4 Hemi or a dually if you need the payload.
Or even the 3500 SRW. That same Cummins/4x4/Mega Cab/Rambox combo as a 3500 is 3,990 lb payload, much more reasonable for anything short of a camper. (A similar DRW 3500 without the Rambox is 5,400 in comparison.)

A 2500 can be as low as 1,630 lb payload if a Power Wagon, and 1,820 if a "normal" Cummins, 4x4, Mega Cab, Rambox config. Which is just ridiculous imo.

I believe their recommendation based on the fact that they had a 2500 on the lot and no 3500s like I was looking for and ended up with. :D

Salesman at Christopher's Dodge World said they sell a bunch of trucks to folks who get a new camper at Camping World without first checking to see if their truck can handle it.

The cabinets in the front were junk and pointless and there wasn’t any space for conventional tool/parts storage.

pulled the paneling, beefed up the wall structures with more 2x2 studs and bracing, and used 3/8” OSB solar board with the foil backing so it would be easy to clean

used the pack out system on the walls to be able to put the bulk of the weight rearward of the axle.

took out the cabinets, and window and framed in the whole wall, and put up the pack-out shelves on the front.

almost done, have to scout some more Home Depot’s for a few more parts and pieces but should have the final product done in a day or two.

I really don't get building those 2 person campers onto 4 door trucks??
Aaaand the back seats are for who exactly?*

*excluding Westy and woo who obviously need those seats for the hookers that are never seen again after that backwoods trip.

The seats fold up and then can be a cargo area. Also so many people camp with dogs, haven’t seen anything for dogs in most campers. My dog would ride in the back seat.

With this Rossmönster one I think they can build it for sleeping up to a (very tight) 6 people. Anything for a price.
