I have a question for you metal guys ! I am using a Titanium spring on my Karpiel. It goues through the seat tower and mounts in the frame. Now, - I can see something that look like scratches on the spring. The spring has been touching the sides of the tower because of a clearance issue. My question is: Can Titanium be scratched by aluminium ??? I am in doubt if it is alu which is sitting in the spring or the ti has be scratched ! I thought Ti would be the harder metal...but  ...I am not sure !

Canada EH !
As far as hardness goes most if not all Ti alloys should be harder than Al alloys so what you are most likely seeing is part of the Al that is rubbing off on to the Ti Spring.
Or there could also be a softer coating of some type on the outside of the Ti spring that could get rubbed off?

Or it could be dirt getting between the spring and frame which will scratch both.

It looks more like metal to metal kind of scratching....but it might be the outer layer on the Ti spring which is coated with something ...??

It depends on the spring weight....and with reference to my present posts the answer ought to be "no", - but "yes" I think you can ! ;)

Hey Lars & Steve, I'm running a 600lb Ti spring and the spring just barely cleared when lined up perfectly, but as soon as the suspension started working the spring would shift a bit causing it to rub. Thats why I dermeled out some material. There is no rubbing issues now.

I might have to do something about it too.....even though I do not like it...
