Can anyone heat treat 4130?

Anybody in the house that can heat treat 4130 Cromoly and straighten it afterwards if it warps? It's an annealed piece 8.25" long (around 210mm) x 19mm dia. The tolerance is approx. 0.05mm. From what I've gathered, it should be taken up to Rockwell 42c hardness. Also, it should be heated vertically and fixtured when quenched. This is related to my thread about the 19mm Profile spindle (http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106331). Anyone w/ the ability to do this, please let me know, thanx.

What? Did somebody say my name.
I could do it if I had an oven. But I don't. Any good tool and die shop should be able to hook you up.
Ideally is should be done in a vacuum furnace, but somebody who knows what they are doing can improvise enough to make it work. Hint: It involves several sheets of notebook paper, stainless steel foil and a hammer.

You guys will love this. When I was calling around for heat treater, I got hold of a sales guy for an unnamed aerospace house. He told me to see if I can just fire up my broiler and throw it in there for 3-4 hours, then throw it in my sink to cool it. This is from someone from an aerospace house! Dude!? WTF!

WTF is right. You need to get 4130 up to about 1800-1850 to get it hard. Then quench in a large vat of oil. When you put the red hot piece of metal in the oil, it will catch on fire. Make sure you have a lid close!
Then you need to get it up to about 400-500 deg and hold it there for several hours. If you can do all that in your kitchen, let me know.

I have done small pieces of W2 steel with a blow torch and a coffee can of water. It can be done, but it's really hard to know when you got it right. I wouldnt trust myself with a BB spindle.

Yeah, I think the guy was making fun of me. Ya know, ppl who build airplanes and rockets laughing at bicycles. Bastard!
Hehe, if I could do that in my kitchen, I think I'd be sporting a couple of horns from my skull w/ lights shinning thru my eye sockets.

Thanx for the offer but I've already sent it off to Denver to have it done. Plus, I think it'll be more costly to send it than to just pay and have it done here.
BTW what do you do? Are you a machinist or a builder? Any good DHing at your neck of the woods?

great to see you found a way to get it done, and as for your questions: no, not really, YES!
