I would imagine that you make the face and then go to a craft store and buy the clock internals, and open them up and reverse some wires (I'm not sure so i'll say the biggest wires you can find).
well you can just buy the motor assembly at most craft/hobby places...the ones that run on aa batteries. then you could pick any surface or shape and put the numbers on it.....as for running backwards though i am not to sure.
Just make a pendulum about 1 meter long. It will run forwards, backwards, forwards, backwards, forwards. Each 1/2 cycle coincidentally will be approximately 1 second. Makes a pretty good stop watch if you can count
