im looking at getting one of the older boxxer 20mm hubs to use for my sc shiver with avids. so this poses two qustions...first off...whats so special about the boxxer hub? will it work with other forks like the sc shiver? second question is if a 5 bolt rotor (avid) will work with this three bolt hub, or is the spacing different?

Ringle and White Industries made the "Boxxer" hubs. 110mm spacing for 20mm hubs is the "standard" so they might fit your fork. The Avid rotors are 6 bolt pattern so they may not work on the 3 bolt pattern on the hubs.

Don't get that hub, unless you can get a hold of several 3 bolt rotors.

hayes used to make 3 bolt rotors. don't know if they still do. Hope could probably make them for you if you really want those hubs
