Actually death bringing life is how our world works, something has to die in order for me to eat and stay alive, an animal dies in the woods and it’s body decomposes and provide nutrition and fertilizer for other plants and animals so they can live. That’s a whole ball of wax we don’t need to, nor do I want to “get in the cage” but I thought I’d comment on that one..
One small point, but I'm not sure that something has to die in order for another organism to live. Mitochondria in prokaryote cells (including ours) is one example. Lampreys on sharks is another example.

No, I don't think that is fair in the least. It's another example of the golden parachutes that we see all too often in the business world.
I just feel that it's a much more important topic to talk about. After all we need another rabbinic torture thread like Jesus needed another hold in the hand.

Or wrist? If he even got nailed to the cross at all, and wasn't just tied to it? If he even existed?

Yeah, that would be fine with me. I just like to hear myself talk though, so I'll comment on either one.

BTW fluff, good diversion with the golden parachute question........
Thanks - How's this one:

In March, Russell Stover unveils its new Easter candy: 6-inch chocolate crucifixes. The Roman Catholic diocese in Bridgeport, Conn., denounces the confection, saying that an edible version of the cross on which Jesus Christ died is not an appropriate Easter-basket mate for marshmallow chicks and chocolate bunnies.

How do they get their nutrition? Is it from the scraps of what the shark ate, or something else...............aquatic biology is not my area of expertise.
Nor is it mine. I believe they feed off the blood of the shark, but they generally do not kill the shark. Maybe someone else here knows better than I do.

There are other examples as well. Fleas generally don't kill their hosts, nor do ticks.

In addition to our riots (the curcifix is a sacred symobl of my faith and shall not be mocked.......hint hint)..........we'll destroy all Russell Stover's stores and promote rioting in any country that allows such stored to operate.........and the country that the chocolate came from...........

I could be wrong, but arent you thinking of a "remora" and not a lamprey? They feed off the sharks scraps.

Ah, I googled it. A lamprey is indeed a different species that bores a hole into fish. Never seen one on a shark tho. Sorry. A remora is what you normally see on those documentaries.

...yet they still require hosts.

If that host requires the death of another animal in order to live, then indirectly, these parasites need it as well.

Yes, you are correct. I goofed.

Lampreys bore holes into fish and feed off the blood.

Remoras attach to larger fish and feed off the scraps or the crustacean parasites.

So, I guess I have to remove that as one of the examples.

Good catch Burly.

I thought about that after I posted. In a round-about way one could argue that they do indeed depend on death. It's sort of a semantic argument as to which side of the coin one chooses I think.

I also thought about plants that use photosynthesis. Do they require nutrients from dead animals and other plants that are in the soil? Do all plants even require that, or can they survive on sunlight and photosynthesis alone?

I also thought about whether the analogy really holds that well. Without opening the steel cage, comparing the death of Jesus to the death of the cow in the hamburger I'm about to eat didn't sit well with me. The latter is for survival, but I'm pretty confident that many people didn't need and don't need the former for their personal survival. I think Andyman is more talking about a spiritual nourishment, which sort of strains the bounds of the analogy IMO.

Carbon AND Ti? True gods? Ha. Polytheism died a long time ago in this country. Pick one god (steel) and get with the program.

Since the tradition that Jesus comes from did not even have a word for spiritual (the thinking was to label on thing spiritual meant something else was not, for an Eastern thinking Jew everything was spiritual….anyway). So with that little nugget in mind, I’m more along the lines of being fully alive (olam haba and shalom in the Hebrew) than just spiritual nourishment in the “traditional” Christian Bible study sense.

Question: One is not fully alive without a spiritual component?

I agree. Sadly getting people around here to respect the religious views and beliefs of others is harder than getting N8 to think. Around here it seems to be open season on religion. :nonono:

So is carbon steel like a roman bastardization of the greek gawds?

Religion is hard.

In true Rabbinic tradition (for which of course you must go back to the ancient Hebrew before it was translated in Aramaic) carbon steel is an abomination for which stoning was condoned.

In the book of Joshua the Welder it clearly states (chapter 3:16) 'For thou shalt forsake all other metals, yea especially that steel that hath been abominated with the heathen carbon. And the Lord shall cast out from amongst his children those that stray from the path of true righteous and they will be cast out and they will wander in outer darkness. And the Lord will set a mark upon them the number of which will be four thousand, one hundred, one score and ten and those of the righteous that see them shalt know them for what they are and shall cast stones upon their puny frames."

This was further elaborated by John the Biopaced who endeavoured to uncover and interpret more of Joshua's writings and finally in the Christan era (when it was still a Judaic sect) Simon the Brazier framed the entire body of work in his teachings about the geometry of righteousness.

So, it's not really that hard so long as you're prepared to get off your lazy arse and do some research.

Over to you Andy and OMFG, I'm sure you can argue more about this one.

wow, I was joking, went to bed, then work only to find this in the PD at four pages.

I wasn't thinking religiously, more along the lines of superhero powers. Like what happens when Superman shoots his super load? Does he blow a hole through Lois vagina?
