I know nothing about road parts & I need a 9-speed cassette to match my 105 on my evil. I am running an XT now but can only shift into the 7 smallest cogs.

Take a look at an Ultegra 12-27 or similar, they can be found cheap these days and are made at least as sturdy as your XT. Happy with mine.

RD-5501-GS -- max 27T -- for triple crank.

RD-5501-SS -- max 27T -- double front.

I'm using an 8spd 11-28 cassette on mine and have NO problems. I'd go with the Ultergra 12-27(28). If you can find one.

9 speed 11-32 with a 105 short cage on my DH9. works fine. Chain could stand to lose a link or two though.

i've run 11-26 and 12-34 with a short cage ultegra mech (single ring up front). both worked fine
