Less access to guns make Germany safer - axe and knife are a very poor substitute:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36827725

"A teenage Afghan refugee armed with an axe and knife injured four people on a train in southern Germany before being shot dead by police, officials say.

Three people were seriously hurt and one suffered minor injuries in the attack in Wuerzburg, police said."

No, it proves my point that guns are more effective than knives or axes. People more people died/harmed with guns, not the knives or axes. It also shows people fail at statistics - outliers are not the norm. Compare the average number of mass (or less) shootings in Germany to the US and then figure out if guns make the USA safer.
