Any recommendations for exchanging USD to CDN for a sizeable bike purchase? The buyer's and seller's want over 4% for the priviledge of exchanging $$'s.

That's silly. I think Paypal will do it for you for free, or at least a lot less than 4%. I think pretty much any bank or credit card company will do it too.

I confirm that you can buy online with CC and leave the CC company do the exchange. They usually have a pretty good rate. I've ordered a bike yesterday and the fee for exchange was under 3%.

1548$ US @ today rate (xe.com/ucc) give 1979$ CDN
I was charged 2038$ CDN on my CC so it give about 58$ CDN for the exchange fee.

For a lower rate, you'll have to pass by a international bank or specialized currency exchange office. Is'nt worth the trouble IMO.
