Dunno really. Was just thinking that Kovarik had his season pretty much ruined through injury when he was on board too. It's late. I was short of ideas. Still, healing vibes to Matti.

This just in - Matti Lehikoinen has gone down hard and broken both wrists.
My G/F was marshalling at that location today,it was a whoops section which a couple of riders tried to plow and quickly became passengers. Lots of riders were stopping and re-riding the section over and over.

If you watch the dirt day 1 video it's the section where you see matt vincent, hightower and sam blenkinsop ride.

She took a piss break, came back and there he was flat on his back about 2meters off the track. He went over the bars into the last whoop wrists first.
She said it was a sickening sight especially when his wrists flopped all over the place.
Not good!

Vanessa Quin broke her neck at the same time as signing with MS-intense in early 07, Matti broke his neck right when he signed with them too, late last year.

Spooooooooooooooooooky

But I hope he heals up quick :) He deserves to have a good season one year

No, the UCI has a photographer on staff every year to provide their press release photos, web photos etc. Gary has that contract this year, Frank Bodenmuller did last year.

Yes, UCI and promoter for press pass. As of next year, things will begin to get very tight for press passes, finally. Too many riders have hit "photographers" this year (Greg Minnaar, 4 times). I use the term photographer loosely, as a guy with a camera phone and a press pass should not be on the course and is certainly not working press.
Funny you should mention that, one of the advertising clips for this event showed exactly that, a rider plouging into a cameraman with a video recorder.
The footage was from the camera man. it happened at the spot where neil donohugh(sp?) almost goes of track after a gap jump over the rocks in the dirt day 1 vid. I'll try and dig it up, it was posted on farkin.net last time i saw it.

I know it´s a lot of work, but maybe a second "fence" of tape behind the course in some sections? Two feet, or something. I guess it´s pretty d*mn irretating with spectators hanging over to the inside on the racerun, when lines are dialled.

ok i'm gonna chime in here ... the DH course is double-taped here in Canberra - with spectators outside the double, press/marshalls inside - which is how it used to be on the world cups when i started this lark 1997 ... feels like a lifetime ago.

However, the incidents that are being spoke of are from people passing themselves off as professionals ... i know about the Greg Minnaar incidents and in the elite XC at Worlds in Val di Sole there were 2 incidents that caused big issues - one involved 2007 World Champion Irina Kalentyeva having to get surgery on her eye socket after hitting a cameraman.

it is a big issue - we are there to observe and capture a moment of a race with a shot or series of frames and this should never jeopardize the riders' safety or the outcome of a race. believe it or not a zoom doesn't need to be walked forward.

Trust me, when this all shakes out for next year the photo/press pass will not be the quick and easy way to secure yourself a free entry to a world cup .. and for that i am thankful. the end result of the work being done with the UCI and the MBPA (mountain bike press association) will definitely not chase away people wanting to cover the racing but there will be a differentiation in the classification of media and where they can and cannot go.

thats it for me ... i'm tired and i wanna go to bed and i have to shoot xc and 4x tomorrow.

aha thats awesome
That is - indeed - awesome! I might have to make one of those!!

Transcend: I can view freecaster on my iphone, but every video I tried going into came up with a picture of a play button with a line through it, and wouldn't play. What's the catch? Cheers bud :)

The iphone stream is under development. Hoping to have it working soon. I only stumbled on it myself a few weeks ago.

That really sucks. So a camera man caused this fall that broke his wrists? I never have shot a WC, but when shooting I will try and find a spot near the tech and steep but not in where riders will be! If I look up and can see rocks smaller than a wheel it is for sure a rideable section and I will move. I am always nervous about the riders here locally I shoot when they are riding a line and I am close to em.

That sucks hope it gets sorted.......

Did I miss something in this thread?
Oops sorry guess I assumed it was some type of spectator problem withh all the talk of double tape lines and all! And the talk about how hard a pass would be down the road....

Don't mind me being crazy and all!

This is the first event in a long time that has it done properly, due largely in part to Gary and Rob Jones' hard work. Next year has been a long time coming in that regard.

That's the pot calling the kettle black..You mean illiterate, not illegible..
Please check your dictionary. I know exactly what word I meant to use. I also happen to know the definition of said word, do you?

il·leg·i·ble (-lj-bl)
adj.
Not legible or decipherable.
And just for kicks, here is what being legible means.

legible

Main Entry: leg·i·ble
Pronunciation: \ˈle-jə-bəl\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Late Latin legibilis, from Latin legere to read
Date: 14th century

1 : capable of being read or deciphered : plain <legible handwriting>
2 : capable of being discovered or understood

haha, I know exactly what it means..Which post was "illegible"? Weren't you making a comment on how someone misread the post on a photog and Minaar and it turned into a photog causing Matti's 2 broken wrists. :banghead:

Bummed to find out the live feed on Freecaster is canceled!
Any one else going to have live video up??

Sad news indeed. Since live coverage goes through freecaster, I doubt that there will be a live video on the other sites.

Hopefully I'm wrong.
