What springs will fit the Cane Creek DB? My buddy is 140-145 and needs a spring. I think he needs a 300x2.5. How about some ideas on how to set this thing up?

the ss2 is spec'd with a 8.5x2.5 shock.

although not as accurate as asking the manufacturer, you can roughly calculate what spring is needed by finding the average leverage ratio and multiplying that by rider weight. so...

the ss2 has a 2.5" shock, and 6-6.5" of travel. if we assume 6" travel, the bike has an average leverage ratio of 6/2.5=2.4

lets say 145 lbs rider, 2.4*145= 348.

id try a 350x2.5 shock. (it might be labled as 2.6 or so; that way, the spring has more free length than the shock has stroke)

it may be more fruitful to call intense instead of CC...

I called Intense and they said to call CC.

Malcolm called me back yesterday and recommended a 300 or 350 for my buddy. He has a 400 right now and is getting NO... I repeat no sag. I dont think a 350 will get him enough sag. He is going to order a 300. Malcolm had a quick set up recomendation and my buddy will give it a try.

Im still curious as to what weight spring you guys are running on the SS2.
Anyone??

Not a direct comparison, but given that your friend's bike is a 2.4 leveraged ratio, and my current bike is a 2.33, i thought it'd be good enough to give my 2cents on...

I'm 160lb + riding gear (170), w/ a 350lb spring, and I only get 25% sag with pretty much zero preload.

on 400lb spring, i got 15% sag. Seems like dropping 50lb rate, increased sag roughly 10%

Your friend definately is going to need a 300lb spring, and even then, if he was getting ZERO sag at 400, he may even need a 250lb spring for ~30's % sag.
