i'm wondering if i really should keep my sigma 12-24 now that i have a full-frame sensor. 12mm is really ridiculous on full frame. perspective distortion and a half! plus 24mm effective via full frame + 24-105/4L IS is pretty dang close to the effective 20mm i had with the 20D + 12-24 while being much more useful due to the constant aperture, sharpness near(er) to wide open, and, most importantly, IS.

thoughts?

fair enough. maybe i'll keep it around as a play lens and for taking photos of buildings while standing at arms length from them

3 out of the 4 5D mk II's i played with at CES this year, had their autofocus broken. the rep tried switching lenses on all of them, but it still didnt work. loved the camera otherwise.

haven't decided, but i am leaning towards keeping it and selling the 30D. i know i'll get less $ for it by far, but i think i would prefer using the 5D as my 2nd body.
If you're going to unload it, I've heard about this almost-homeless guy in Santa Cruz that might want it... :cupidarrow:

ok, i've just started playing around w/ it a bit and the noise control is phenomenal...the 5D is a great performer at high ISO, but this camera bests it by a considerable amount, i'd say. these are obviously not very detailed tests, but here's a couple of test shots at high ISO. these were handheld so that's why they are not sharp.

#1
shutter - 1/5
aperture - f/5.6
ISO 5000
no noise reduction done...converted and resized using Canon's DPP software (i might have brightened it slightly, can't recall)

#2
shutter - 0.4
aperture - f/3.2
ISO 12800
nothing done aside from converting the raw via DPP into jpg and resizing

I am not going to lie. There is something about bird pictures that makes me want to go take some. I was debating between a 100-400 and a 70-200 when I was going to buy a 40d but then I bough ta GTI. Hopefully this summer I will waste some of my college fund on a nice body and some glass.

psp: might as well support Canon and the Japanese economy i suppose. the good lawd knows that your college fund is wasted on its stated purpose.
