He certainly had a career game last night. And he's certainly a hall of fame caliber player. But he's not on any list of all-time great leaders IMO.

Leader by example. Best player on a team of great players.

Jeter is funny to watch in interviews.
They ask him questions like, "how did you go 5 for 5 in a playoff game?"
And he looks like is trying so hard not to be arrogant.
He looks uncomfortable trying to explain it.
You can tell he just wants to go.
"Because I am a badass, chicks love me and pitchers fear me."

Tom Brady is better by far. He takes a team w/ marginal talent and wins CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Jeter takes a team of all stars and wins wildcards.

Yes. A team of all stars every year. **** the NY Steinbrenners. They shouldnt even need a leader. They are teh epitomy of all that is wrong with sports. A bunch of overpaid players who dont hustle.

What does Jeter do to lead them? Play to his ability? Any of those players is a franchise player on most other teams.

EDIT: and jeter hasnt been a capt. since the yankees have won a ship.

And Tom Brady would be nothing without his head coach. Think Jeter would continue to produce without Torre?

And Jeter's team would be nothing without a lineup of all stars. The whole patriot games is predicated on Brady's play. If Jeter goes 0-4, there's 8 other all stars to pick up slack.

Jeter might not handle every ball (but as shortstop, he does handle the majority), but from leadership on the field to the classiness he shows off of it, he is the No 1 player in New York.

Or possibly the QB position is more critical, just ask Trent Dilfer, the Superbowl winning QB.

Ok, you've just been shown that Jeter hasnt been captain for a SINGLE championship. Then you go on to berate Brady's importance by picking one odd exception about a position on a team that Brady didnt even play for. Need I say more?

Comparing the two sports is a waste of time. Is Kobe Bryant a better leader than Tom Brady? What about pairs sports? Is Martina Navratilova a better leader because she won 41 Grand Slam double titles?

Tom Brady is a great player in a position where he is involved with every offense play. Baseball players have less impact on every play.

Jeter is one of the best, if not the best. Tom Brady is not THE best QB and one could argue if he had a different coach, things would dramatically change.

...so now you say that there is no way to compare leaders in different sports. Why ask the question "Who is a better leader than Jeter?"

Ive given you a guy who led his team to three championships without overwhelming talent. You cling to the notion that somehow a guy who has led his team to ZERO championships, with the most highly paid, highly decorated team behind him is somehow better. That makes no sense. No sense at all.

And for the record, a QB is far more involved with his team's overall play than a shortstop could ever be. One random example of a defensive team who won it all wont change that.

Hold on a second now. If you said Belichick is a better leader than Jeter, I couldn't argue with that notion. But you could even argue that Vinatieri is more important than Brady. Brady might pass the ball well, but who was more clutch for the Patriots?

Who looks to Brady for leadership? Maybe the wide receivers, but that's it. Every Yankee looks to Jeter for leadership.

Who cares who they look to when OBVIOUSLY the leadership to this point hasnt been enough to win a world series. One could argue that the teams MAIN PROBLEM is a lack of leadership, especially considering how the redsox handed them their ass in the postseason. How can he be consdidered GREAT when he hasnt won it with the BEST PLAYERS ever? How? WTF are you talking about?

Keep slamming Brady because he isnt the headcoach AND kicker...that makes sense. :bonk: How about Favre? At least he WON a championship unlike Jeter. How about ANYONE WHO HAS LED A TEAM TO A TITLE PLEASE!?!??!?!!

ps Jeter is the first Yankee captain since before the championship years. Brady was voted an offensive captain by his teammates in 2002, 2003 and 2004, so what happened in 2005?

I have to try for something. I should start this argument again after the World Series (or delete the thread if the Yankees lose...)
