So I have been noticing a lot of threads on cars and I thought it would be cool to hear what people have and if they have done any modification to their cars. I know this is a dedicated bike site but why not mix it up a bit? I started modifying my car once the gas prices went up.

I have been shaving weight and trying to improve feul econony any way I can. Since I'm not fully cleared to ride MTB yet I have been really getting into it my car. Anyone else doing the same. If you have links to pics of your car post them. If not just post the pic. I have dial up so it can be a bit slow loading but cool cars are worth the wait :D....D

I have a '00 impreza 2.5RS and love it. Not much in the modification department yet, but I have plans of doing an engine swap down the road. Want to put in a turbo 2.5 that I would like to build up myself.
As of right now I'm just doing some minor stuff to upgrade while doing regular maintence (full synthec gear lube and the such).

So for starting a thread asking people to talk about thier cars, what they drive and what they've upgraded, you seemed to have skirted that in your post... (read as casual jabbing no bunched panties please)

I'll post a pic tomorrow

I've also got a few other plans I'm working on and saving up for as well. Right now I am saving up to get a 2003 CLK55 AMG within 2 years. Lower it on racing coilovers, get some nice black race wheels, RennTech Supercharger, Custom side exhaust with no muffler, recaro racing buckets, partially stripped interior.

I also want an ex-MOD 88" SIII Land Rover. NA I-4 Diesel, no roof, no doors, super simple, un-restored.

I have a problem when it comes to cars.

Started with this ($600 craigs list special):

Now it looks more like this:

I photochoped the stance real quick because I don't have any updated pics right now.

I tossed the 350 2bbl for a 350 with 883 heads
Edelbrock Performer intake
Carter AFB 650 cfm carb
Hooker headers (exhaust is ghetto until next month)
MSD HEI Pro Billet dist. and 8.5mm plug wires
Stage 2 clutch
'92 Silverado 60/40 bench seat
2.5" drop spindles
Power disc brake front conversion
4" rear spring drop
All lights are clear lenses with colored LEDs

Next is a relocation of the gas tank with a custom Buell gas cap mounted on the side of the bed. Full buildout of the inside with much moblie entertainment, air bag kit to replace the lower springs and make the ride a bit nicer, and a weld in c-notch kit so I can drop it.

The final product will be a full Cadillac buildup with LS1 motor, T56 trans, Escalade wheels, and maybe an emblem replacement to match. The LS1 will be built to run E85 fuelas well.

It's only driven on the weekends (if even that often), so it might as well be fun.

I have an Audi A4 2.0T (200 bph, 24 city / 32 highway) and its staying stock. If I wanted the car to look sportier, I would have gotten the S-Line kit, which makes the car look like an S4. And if I wanted the car to be faster, I would have gotten the 3.2 (255 bhp) or, if I wanted both a faster car and the S-Line look, I would have bought the S4 (although, it was $20K more, which I couldn’t afford AND gets crappy gas mileage because it has a 4.2 liter V8, with 340 bhp).

I would appreciate my Xterra being out of the shop after 2 weeks. I may appreciate the roof rack off to decrease any wind drag, since I don't use my roof rack much, I think I will keep it off until I do need it.

Engine:

IHI VF34 ball-bearing turbo
Tial 38mm external wastegate
TurboXS front mounted intercooler
TurboXS UTEC (user tunable engine computer) piggyback
TurboXS DTEC-BC Pro electronic boost controller
Walbro 255 liter per hour fuel pump
Ultimate Racing 600cc fuel injectors
Custom "shorty" cold air intake
Unorthodox Racing underdrive crank pulley, although this is being ditched this week since I'm tired of having dim headlights and poor air conditioning

Transmission and exhaust:

STi RA rally-specification gearset in the gearbox (stronger and shorter - 2.7k rpms at 60 mph in top gear)
STi limited slip center differential, not adjustable however
ACT Street Disc clutch
Exedy 12.5 lb flywheel
Custom catless uppipe
Invidia bellmouth catless 3" downpipe (with the external wastegate plumbed to it)
BPM 3" midpipe with one catalytic converter, one resonator
Prodrive 2.5" axleback exhaust

Stats:

The target boost is 18-19 psi from 3500 to 5500, then tapering down to 15 and change at redline. 284 whp/262 lb-ft. on a dynojet in February (running straight 18 psi for this pull):

The previous owner dragged the car (I haven't, as I've just stuck to autocross) and his best time was 12.6xx @ 111 mph.

Brakes and suspension:

Stillen drilled rotors up front, Powerslot slotted rotors out back, stock size for 16" wheel compatibility
Hawk brake pads iirc
Stainless steel brake lines throughout
D2 Racing coilovers, 7k/5k spring rates (about twice as stiff as stock)
Helix solid endlinks in the rear
Whiteline 24mm front swaybar, Perrin 20-22-24mm adjustable rear swaybar
Replica front and rear strut tower braces

Alignment:

-2.5 camber up front, -1.8 in rear, 0 toe, +5 caster (rotated camber plates)

Wheels and tires:

STi 17x7.5" BBS rims with 225/45/17 Nokian WR all season tires for the street
Rota Slipstream 16x7" rims with 245/45/16 Kumho V700 Victoracer R compounds for autocross. I'm selling this wheelset due to lack of time for racing, however... :(

Cosmetic and other:

Valentine 1 hard wired
Game Boy Advance SP, used to control the DTEC boost controller
iPod and Game Boy dashboard mounts from www.proclipusa.com
Seibon carbon fiber hood with requisite hood pins
35% tint all around, with a cutout for the radar detector
'05 Legacy GT shift knob
Kartboy short shifter kit
Battery relocated to the trunk for weight distribution
TurboXS KnockLite knock/shift light
Exhaust gas temperature and oil pressure gauges
Japan-market STi replica grille, "i" Impreza badge
Hella Supertones horns, 118 dB!
Tein hydraulic hood dampers (so the hood stays open on its own)
Fog lights deleted to make way for the intercooler plumbing
"Subaru" on trunk shaved for cleanliness
CG Lock on the driver's seatbelt
#1729 number plates for autox (the Hardy-Ramanujan number!)
No spare tire (the amps live there + AAA Plus)
1 1/4" trailer hitch, long exhaust hangers to allow for this
Sportworks/Thule T2 hitch rack, currently backordered

Stereo:

Dynamat Extreme in the trunk, cabin, and doors
No head unit! instead the iPod is wired directly to the amps:
JL Audio 300/4 and esomethingorother amplifiers
MB Quart Reference 6.5" components in the front doors
Stock, junk rear speakers just for fill

When I have funds to get a new car, I'm going to bathtub my TS and turn it into a autoX car. Suspension, tires, sways, endlinks, brakes/rotors, cold air intake, ehxaust, short-throw shifter, lighter fly-wheel, high friction clutch, etc. I'll need to put in racing seats and 5-points as I'm removing the entire stock interior. I'll start with the suspension/brakes/tires then move onto the engine. I figure I can remove 500 or so lbs of material before I even start on the engine. That should help the power/weight ratio from the get go.
I know it might sound funny, but you can cut as much as 100 pounds by tossing the carpet and pad. You would want to put something down, but dynomat and a little bit of rubber floor mat serves the same purpose and is less than half the weight.

I was reading how Toyota went with hollow pile carpet in the MK4 Supra and cut something like 125 pound off what was in the MK3.

randomly ended up getting 10 year gaps in the model years too, weird

83 mustang GLX convertible, 4 bbl, long headers, no cats
93 cbr600f2 down one tooth on the rear, D&D exhaust
03 jetta 1.8T, nothing really besides the sub and boost gauge
just got rid of the blazer, which had a few bolt-ons and a full sound system

stripping it down is a good start... then go H6

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=959768

in addition to the perrin/pdxtuning H6/GT35R car, there's another pac nw autox local who is in the process of slapping a normally aspirated H6 into a stripped and prepped Impreza L awd shell...

the game boy/DTEC boost controller setup is actually quite sweet:

in my setup it can display a text log (throttle position, rpm, target boost, boost, wastegate solenoid duty simultaneously) or graphical readouts: tachometer, boost, injector duty, solenoid duty, knock level. it also is the interface used to set the boost maps, choosing what boost and solenoid duty at each rpm (and gear if you have it set up that way). you can also save a log of all this data and replay it.

also, my car's dashboard lighting is out for some odd reason  and the gameboy's backlight works... so lately i've been driving around at night with the only lit gauge being the tach on the gameboy. :oink:

I have a 1996 VW Passat TDI Sedan. Only mod I have done is put a hitch on her. Stock she gets 46 mpg, and with my trailer, 2 dirt bikes, and enough gear for almost 2 weeks, she still gets over 30 mpg and has plenty of power. I am going to buy a new Thule T2 Bike rack this summer for hauling the pedal bikes around, i have a roof rack, but I want to keep the milage good so I'm going with a hitch rack. I love my car!!
