Ok well I have to say for a 17 year old I don't know very much about cars. Who can blame me I liek bikes more. Anyways I should hopefully have my license next thursday and I;m getting a car very very soon. Most likely I;m getting a 2000 VW GOLF GL or CL or maybe a Jetta GL I want a VR6 but gas would be insane so I;m sticking with one of those.
So my question is how good bad is the sound in those cars stock?
How much would it cost to put, not the best but a good audio system in it?
And finally I think it might ahve both cd and casettes in it, however I have a Creative Zen Nomad 40GB mp3 player it's just like an ipod but better ;) So whats the best way to attach that to my car seeing as i have all my music on that and not as much on cds?
Thanks

Don't spend your money on car audio....let your friends waste their money. :)

I only replaced my cassette deck because I wanted (and had already) a CD player when I bought my '00 Dakota. That is the only thing I have changed. Only other thing I am thinking of doing is replacing the storage below the rear seat (xtra cab) with a sub woofer enclosure. A small 8 or 10" single speaker so I can still have a cubby for my tire iron and jack. My biggest concern is keeping it stealthy and not cluttering up my interior....and not spending a lot of money.

When you hav efriends with hook ups and access to the product it makes it easier. I have had my truck for over 4 years.....so I haven't exactly jumped into getting a sub in my truck.

Don't mess with chi-chi speaker and amps if you don't need to....that stuff just eats any free money you have. Just run the stock stuff if suffecient and enjoy your car. No need to waste money on a bunch of car audio.

I've seen wiring harnesses that plug into the aux. input of a head unit so you can hook up an .mp3 player/XM/whatever. They also have PIE adapters that trick your changer input on a head unit into thinking you have a changer installed when in fact you have something else connected.

Sorry, I'm Canadian ..sorry...
Did VW still use Blaupunkt(sp) in 2000? Slap a plain old panasonic CD in there and be done. You'll have tunes for the drive to the trail head, and more money to spend on bikes.:thumb:

Also, years ago I was into the big, loud, annoying sterio's. I had 2 18" subs in a kingcab Nissan, 8" JL's with pioneer seperates in the doors, Sony tweets in the C pillars and a bunch of Pheonix gold amps to drive everything. Nowaday's my ears are really paying for it, I can't hear a F'n thing.

Do the absolute miminum you need to in order to run a small amp/sub. I replaced my stock CD player (only because it died) with a cheap Kenwood player. Then I bought a used amp/sub from a buddy for $75. The sub helps alot if you set it correctly - you don't need to rattle the fillings out of your teeth to enjoy it.

If you're careful, you could do the whole deal for under $200, especially if you buy used and/or know people who can get you deals on gear.

Yeah I geuss for now I'll leave it stock. I have a friend with a '99 Golf and the sounds is pretty good for stock stuff. And non i;m not one of those morons who have huge subs and listen to 50cent. However I like high quality sound.

I don't know you from adam but good equipment is darn near as clear and great equipment. It just costs 100x's more....you pay more money and have a dininishing return.

Most cars of the last decade came with decent equipment and I think your VW will be less prone to skimping that say my old 88 Ford Ranger. I rocked those stock speakers until I sold it but the stock speakers in my bare bones '00 Dakota are lots better than the old paper ones I had in my Ranger.

I wouldn't sweat it to much.....rock what comes with the car.....use your buddies if you want to hear more $$$ tunes. :) Like I say, I would love to drive a Farrarri, but I wouldn't want to own one. ;) Let the others spend the $$$ and uses yours for Bikes, Car insurance, girls, etc.

It is a waste of money in the long run. You get jack for the investment you put into it. I would say it is worst than DH bikes  :D But then I get breaks on bike parts from time to time too.
