i believe they still feel that way; as bad a state that it's in, any change to it (including reform) is met w/ suspicion.

speaking of tbaggers, it seems their ideology of hate has spread to the muslim world: Pakistani Taliban claim credit for failed NYC Times Square car bombingwow, what a shifty lot. to have this kind of influence behind what was certainly regarded as enemy lines is simply shocking. america's chickens...they're coming home...to roost

i really thought i had these tbaggers figured out. good thing this entire thread is here to set me straight.
Oh, you mean the dubious claim by the unbelievable Pakistani group that's already being discounted by the authorities, including the ranking GOP member on the Homeland Security committee?

Taking credit and actually deserving credit....

After this incident, if that was their top bomb maker, good thing they can still make Dunkin Donuts....

Glad this thread could set you stra........wait, that sarcasm, I see what you did there....

Pakistan is our stalwart ally in the the war on terror, how can this be?
i guess since obama declared an end to the war on terror, they're no longer allies.

that would sure explain the predator hits on civvies

in won't say there's nothing to this charge; there is.

it's sadly odd that a not so insignificant portion of this group will chest thump a cadence of "usa! usa! usa!" when we rescue haiti (as long as they stay down there w/ their voodoo), or bande aceh, or some other 3rd world that doesn't have oil (talking point: make sure to emphasize this), but will categorically dismiss this same gov't out-of-hand. i don't believe it's intentional.
Thats my point. These people are completely disconnected from reality.

hope to do something about that signal-to-noise in the grass roots, but it won't be swift. i think the key here is to get right up to the edge of showing them the mirror in the anti-war crowd, but pull back to let them keep a shred of dignity.
Um....Too late

that was quick..
An arrest has been made in a failed attempt to set off a car bomb in New York's Times Square over the weekend, a law enforcement official told CNN early Tuesday.
The identity of the suspect was not immediately known.
The arrest took place at JFK Airport in New York, while the suspect was trying to board a plane to go overseas. It's destination was not immediately known, a federal law enforcement official said.
Monday evening, another law enforcement official said the buyer of a sport-utility vehicle used in the bomb attempt is considered a potential suspect in the case.
The buyer of the Nissan Pathfinder is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan, and investigators are looking at more than one person in connection with the unsuccessful bombing, the source said.

So the guy is of Pakistani descent, and already the teabaggers want him shipped off to Guantanamo Bay for attempted war crimes. Ummm, hello, aren't they the ones that are supposedly so concerned with the Constitution???!?

(in this case, teabaggers = comments section of the WSJ)

krauthammer on gitmo (hopefully soon to be renamed to 'camp south park'):
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/05/04/krauthammer_guantanamo_has_just_gotten_an_extra_year_or_two_of_life.html

and from the cnn link above:
Faisal Shahzad was arrested at JFK airport in New York as he prepared to board a flight to Dubai, Holder said.
can this guy keep his job? he can't keep his facts straight. here's what actually happened:
(Faisal) Shahzad, who had been the subject of a huge manhunt, almost made it out of the country on a Emirates flight to Dubai, with a planned connection onward to Pakistan, according to the officials.

"He appeared real close to getting away," one federal official said. "The plane was buttoned up. Backed away from the jetway."

Authorities said that despite the manhunt, his passport had not been flagged and he was able to buy a ticket with cash and clear airport security.

FBI agents discovered Shahzad's car parked in a short-term lot at JFK airport Monday evening and searched for his name on airline passenger manifests.

The flight had begun to taxi for takeoff when FBI agents ordered it to return to the gate where Shahzad and two others were taken into custody.
to say nothing of the apparent inability to update the no-fly list (i'm led to believe it's in a centralized db)

oh well, at least this another in a series of fortuitous events proves that amrikkka's god is bigger than theirs

all the news channels from 1am on were saying they nabbed him before he boarded the flight. obviously after the event has happened, new info has been released on how it actually went down

...can I admit to being slightly disapointed it wasnt (apparently...) a teabagger?
i can appreciate that. but then you'd have 2 groups at the fore on the attack on the homeland: islamic extremists and tbaggers, both of whom won't go away anytime soon.

and if you thought tbaggers were racist, jingoistic, xenophobes before...

erm...isn't eric holder the one of the few who's supposed to release (or at least have access to) this information? i seem to recall he holds a post w/ the potential for up-to-date info

but maybe he *was* just sitting in his pj's flipping the channels when the news broke.

if there's one thing holder can praise allah for, it's da mayor:
KATIE COURIC: Law enforcement officials don't know who left the Nissan Pathfinder behind, but, at this point, the mayor believes the suspect acted alone.

MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG: If I had to guess -- 25 cents -- this would be exactly that, somebody-

COURIC TO BLOOMBERG: A home-grown?

BLOOMBERG: Home-grown, maybe a mentally deranged person or somebody with a political agenda that doesn't like the health care bill or something. It could be anything.
yep, it could be anything:

I'm surprised this was the best they can do. 9/11 to this? That's like telling a woman you have a legendary male porn star to fulfill all her fantasies, and then tossing her into bed with the Hedgehog.

you're in good company:

I mean the thing is that- and I get frustrated and there was part of me that was hoping this was not going to be anybody with ties to any kind of Islamic country because there are a lot of people who want to use this terrorist intent to justify writing off people who believe in a certain way or come from certain countries or whose skin color is a certain way. I mean they use it as justification for really outdated bigotry. And so there was part of me was really hoping this would not be the case that here would be somebody who is not the defined. I mean he’s accused, he’s arrested you know I don’t want to convict him before it’s time to do so. He’s the guy authorities say is involved.
not sure what changed in the next few seconds, when she had this to say about the militia group who *also* have not been convicted before it's time to do so
But that being said, I mean, we know even in recent history you have the Hutaree militia from Michigan who have plans to, let’s face it, create terror. That’s what they were planning to do and they were doing so from far different backgrounds than what this guy is coming from.
blame whitey? fine.
blame brownie? far from heckuva job.

you know what? bloomberg could be onto something:
random article said:
Court records show that the suspect [Shahzad] in the failed Times Square bombing defaulted on a $200,000 mortgage on his Connecticut home and that the property is in foreclosure. Shahzad lost his home to foreclosure last year after defaulting on a $200,000 loan for a home he and his wife purchased in 2004 [a.k.a. the height of the bush regime]
and maybe this is blowback from failed bush policies that have left borrowers disgruntled

it's anybody's guess, really

was instead due to the same socio-economic issues that are plaguing the rest of the country?
The guy did tell his neighbors he worked on Wall Street......

A woman who said she lived next door to Shahzad...said that the man she knew....claimed to work on Wall Street.

the fact that Shahzad is a naturalized citizen does make the charge of "homegrown terrorist" a squishy term, and not terribly useful.

mcveigh, lindh, padilla, jihad jane are natural born, so they absolutely fit.

mcveigh had to go & **** things up by not converting to islam while in the army. same w/ that MI militia. would have made things so nice to just intern a few million muslims a-la third season of 24

srsly, if in the past decade+ there were always an islamic element to attacks (or near misses), you think we wouldn't have 1/3 of kansas dedicated as a giant feed lot for hadjis?

praise allah for rednecks, eh?

Yeah, me too. Remembering all the mailboxes, mud puddles, model airplanes and cats we blew up with those when I was a kid. But weren't old school M-80s like a 1/4 stick of dynamite or some such?

If that were true and they had 40 or more in there, it would've made a pretty big pop...
