Only when rocking 10" of travel. First ride turned into a mudfest (no creaking). I should have taken a photo of her afterwards, cuz it's way too "show bike" when clean.

I've been running mine in 8.5 inch mode for the last couple of days in Whistler, feels like a completely different bike. Dropped the spring rate down to 350 on the RC4 (I weigh 160 pounds).
Its pedals better and is a lot more fun on the more jumpy trails, which is everything at the moment as not much is open. Once you take sag into account i think the geometry is pretty much the same as 10 inch mode.
It does feel a lot different though, but I still need to dial in the compression on the RC4

I thought you were supposed to go up in spring rate when you flip the chip to 8.5"? Maybe you just went down from the stock 450 spring? Has anyone else thought about making a travel chip with the mount in the center, giving the bike about 9.25 travel? Food for thought.
No. The idea is to have 30% sag in both travel settings. The shorter travel setting leverages the shock less so you need to reduce spring rate to maintain sag. For a trail ride I left all my shock settings the same and just put it in short travel. It was much firmer and only sagged about 20%.
I'm loving my XL frame. I have to admit, though, that I'm a little bummed with the parts that came with it. My Cane Creek Angleset creaks (actually sort of clicks) on occasion. Not anything crazy but enough that I am already replacing it. Hopefully it will do better on my "everything but downhill" bike. Also, my Vivid air stuck down at 40% sag after about 4-5 rides. They are replacing it but it sort of sucks to be dealing with this after throwing down so much for a frame. The frame is super easy to work on and hopefully will be more reliable after these issues are resolved. How is the Vivid coil on the V10 working for everyone? Has it been reliable? I really love the way the Vivid feels but have a low tolerance for frequent problems.

You might have to pressurize the vivid air when you initially fill it up. Have you tried putting your shock pump back on and filling it again? You have to do that a couple times to fill the negative chamber.
There is also a big feature on pinkbike about how to properly install the angle set so it doesn't click.

Illnotsick, thanks for the info. This isn't what is going on with the Vivid air. I was told that it actually burped internally. I'm not the only one that has had this problem and I have been told that not all of them do this. Who knows? They are replacing the shock.
The thing with the angleset is another matter. I've read the threads. Read the thread on Ridemonkey. There are very competent mechanics that can't consistantly get rid of the clicking. I know a bunch of people in this area that can't get rid of this problem. You got to love it when companies produce a faulty product and blame the consumer for being a bad mechanic. Mine clicks a bit too. I ended up greasing the cups and head set... which seems to have helped, but not solved it completely.
That's a bummer about your vivid, do they did they give you any info on what caused it to burp?
I think they said air leaked into the negative pressure chamber but I might have that reversed. I talked with someone from the shop not from Sram.
No. You have to buy the Angleset but it comes in the box for easy re-sale.
As for the shock: Nearly all current air shocks and forks use a self adjusting negative spring. A faulty o-ring, dirt, or lack of lube can allow air from the positive chamber to slip by and over pressurize the negative chamber. In every instance I've seen this could be fixed by the rider, though opening a stuck down shock/fork without it exploding in your face is the hardest part.
Yeah, this sounds right. The mechanic from the shop who walked by when it happened said it was potentially fixable. He also said it would take a vise and would explode like a rifle and possibly shoot part of the shock out when I took it apart. Not very practicle at a race. Shocks are put under a lot of stress and have problems. The thing that concerned me was how little I rode before this happened. I do have to say that this shock felt really phenomenal before this happened and maybe it isn't a common problem. How often are you servicing this shock? Should I have serviced it in the 4-5 days I rode it (not even full days since it's still the building season for me)?

That it happened shortly after you got it makes me think it had a defective o-ring. Your's is the only Vivid Air I've heard of yet that's done this but I've seen it on 1 Fox float Series shock and heard of it on others. I plan to clean/lube the air can twice a year. No, you shouldn't have needed to service it and I don't think a dirty or dry o-ring caused it. Rather, a torn or miss-shaped o-ring.
Does it feel too high? My M9 may be too short so may need to go to an xl v10.
No. Feels like normal DH bike height cuz it sags 1/2" more at the rear axle than 8" bikes. It's low enough that I hit the bash guard almost once a run and have to be conscious to not catch my pedals. I'm sure some bikes feel even lower but I don't think I'd like that.

I've heard of one other case, I think it was on a demo. How do you plan on servicing the air can yourself? Don't you need a special air can tool?

Thanks for the info. It's good to hear that it is a rare problem. Do you guys know what tune vivid coil the V10 uses(my guess would be high)? I'm thinking of getting a spare shock. I like having one regardless.
I believe it's the C or high tune. That's what I got my vivid air with, but it's an 05 frame.

Did a top to bottom run on Huck's XL V10. It is super nice. Fits me better then the large M9. That's Huck for corrupting my mind.

Now I have to decide if I want to order one and sell my M9. May give it another ride or two. Bumping my travel to 9.5" with same spring to soften it up

Keep tweaking comp and spring settings a little at a time.
It felt like a hardtail to me, took the hard hits like a champ, but rattled me something fierce (front and back) - I may have swallowed a few fillings.
(for others reference - him 6'5", me just shy of 6'8". both ~240lbs)
It was definitely ridable for me, a bit more 'flickable' I would def say.
