Cedric Leaving Cannondale?

biker3

Turbo Monkey
Some lurker on mtbr posted that cedric was with Comencal now? I realize its most likely TOTAL BS but whats the deal? I dont see why he would ever leave C-dale considering he has his own custom bike, makes tons of money and is the only DH rider on the Siemens Team. I just don't see how he or cannondale would have any conflict? Please let it not be true C-dale might not be alive anymore had it not been for gracia and chase.

Surrious. I must concur. IMHO, Cedric is leaving Cannondale because HuckPed and ShredCom are riding for them... he just can't measure up if you know what I mean.

I wish it were true, well, actually I'm sick of seeing him ride the Lefty! I like C-Dale Frames, but I wish they'd race with something other then that awkward looking pile of Cr@p.

Cedric has been looking for a new ride for weeks now. Word is that Siemens has pulled out, and Cdale wants nothing to do with DH right now. Simply too big a budget is required apparently.

Ced has been shopping himself around to the larger manufacturers for about 8 weeks now.

Good. He was a bad image to maintain. Unhealthy, lazy, porn, unethical, rockstar. :nope: Now they will have some money to employ someone serious that can help re-establish Cannondale. :thumb: He is a fantastic athlete but he's to full of himself to sustain a company like Cannondale. If he doesn't get serious in the next couple of years he'll realize he's washed. Happens all the time. I hope he wisens up, it would be amazing to see what he could do if he went legit.

yea, it seems as though that site is more commercial than it is forums/people talking about riding.
If I want a good deal, I go there.
If i want fun and entertainment, I come here...
good thing I don't have any money, just means more time here :D

Bad image? Yup, all those podiums, race highlight photos and vids, and name recognition were terrible for C-dale. Not to mention that he probably singlhandedly brought a couple thousand sex-crazed women into sport and straight to cannondale, just by existing.

If I were C-Dale and I wanted to sell Prophets and Geminis, he's the ONLY racer I would employ...

That's CRAZY! I don't know the details of his deal w/ C'dale but still. I too thought DH budgets were high until I researched XC and road...whoa nelly! DH is a bargin by comparison. I for one am a Cedric fan. He's one of the few riders who pops up on a WC podium one weekend, a Red Bull Freeride Compe one another weekend, stars in race & freeride vids...jeez...when did you last see THAT from a top 10 XC world cup guy?? Bottom line is you don't.

Ummm...ya...sure he parties hard but so do Peaty, Rennie, et al. It's part of the DH scene...shiz it's part of the whole cycling community. The XC guys aren't slouches in that dept either btw! I'd personally rather have that then the roadies/xc guys who continually are getting busted for doping.

If you're worried about Gracia's image, you might want to play it safe and watch a Disney movie instead. Geez...Peat makes a career out of being an amazing rider and a budding alcoholic, and no one peeps, but god forbid a good looking guy use his dick now and then...

I agree completly with this statement!

What more could a company want then their top rider to be a moving banner with sponsor's adds? He's done so well promoting C-dale they'd be stupid to get rid of him. Maybe so they can promote A. Chase more  j/k

He's probably the reason their DH/FR bikes are what they are. What more product testing do you want? He races, freerides, and rides the rampage year after year on a gemini. I dunno, I don't think Tinker did it for DH, maybe XC, but not the DH/FR crowd.

If it all comes down to it, and C-dale drops their team because it's "too expensive" which is horse poop (like someone else said, XC/Road guys spend a TON, DH is a bargin!) then he'll go with a company who wants him. He'll still be on the top no matter what but it'd be interesting.

Cedric is far and away the best-known part of C'dale in the DH/FR area... getting rid of him would be like saying "ok we only want to sell 1/4 as many DH/FR bikes this year" IMO.

How many times have looked at a Cannondale and thought "Yeah, it's a ****ty single pivot, but Gracia rides it, so it might just work..."

If I had a dollar...

Ya, it's a pretty common attitude. "If it's good enough for Cedric/Peat/Rennie/whatever then it's good enough for me".
Well it 'would' be great for Commencal to have these two French Superstars back on board.
Most people don't know or don't like the company.
So the statement "when Cedric rides it, it must be good" is a very very good selling point.

I hope it's true.

Don't forget too that Commencal (the owner) used to run the almighty French Sunn Chippie Team for years and Cedric grew up with that team from when he was a junior in BMX to MTB with the likes of A.C., Voullioz, Gachet, Pascal and Barel. I think there is a lot of loyalty to that Max Commencal dude as well.

I like him because he SKIS in the winter as his "training". I hate him because he is so talented it makes me look like I should still be riding with training wheels.

You need people like Cedric in the sport. They might not have the "purest" image but you remember them. Kinda like the spongemonkey Quiznos commercial...not the best image, but you sure as hell remembered them.

Seriously though, if he was as lazy as you think, he wouldn't be tearing it up to the level he does. I know he potrays himself as a rockstar and loves to party, but don't be too sure that he doesn't train/gets wasted at every oppertunity. Plus he's real funny...I just wish everybody in the sport could get the recognition that he does...it's be more like skiing/snowboarding

At the starting line of every race since the history of time everybody says they didn't train enough and were lazy...he's a strong rider in everyway...best of luck to him in 05!

No doubt.
There are some people that buy their bikes based solely on what Pro rides it.
Cedric has given them more exposure than any current rider that I can think of, and God knows if any turd company needs positive exposure, its Cannondale. They did not get the crack n' fail nickname for no reason.
Then you have high profile atheletes such as AC and Lopes leaving C-dale, and then talking about how crappy the bikes were. Pros normally never do that, so you can imagine their level of frustration.
But Cedric hung in there with them, and IMO is the best DHer in the industry to put your marketing dollars behind.

NORCAL is the hizzle
Lefty: Fork or forks?

A real brain mangler.

Anyway, Cedric is cool, he seems to do a good job walking the line between party dude and responsible professional. Yeah his image is that of a rockstar but from what I've heard he's accessible, signs autographs, does the media thing pretty well, gives tech input, and generally represents. Personally I can remember seeing him at races more than other racers, even when he doesn't win he's an impressive, inspirational rider, and I totally agree that when I see a Cannondale I think it will help me ride like Cedric...

That post against c-dog smells like jealousy. Hey, I wish I was in his shoes too...but that doesn't mean I'm gonna diss the guy.

For real if anything hes the biggest marketing tool in the business. Just because he represents his sponsers in a different way doesnt mean he doesn't do a damn good job. People like him, Palmer, Peat are the keys to getting this sport into the open. Yes, its good to have ultra professional non showy guys like voillez but there needs to be a balance. I like cedric hes my all around favorite rider and has been since the first time I saw him ride. He may be a showoff but that seems like just the way he is so there really is no use talking because he gets to ride his bike for a job and obviously loves doin it. And if you havent noticed lots of other riders seem to enjoy the same kind of showing that cedric does(dyer, peat, rennie and even good ole humble minnar)
