Interesting responses. I like the one that thinks that I think I'm better than him because I follow Christ. Odd. Understandable with the way the american church is viewed, but still odd. As for Cedric, He's not leaving Cannondale. The remarks I made were also echoed by legend Johnny Tomac in Mountain bike fiction last year. You don't have to get all upset your idol is a drunk and unethical; that's why you like him. Everybody likes people like themselves. It's liking people that are different that takes character. :nopity: I like Cedric-as a rider and an entertainer I think he is a pro at self promotion. It's just sad to see him set such a bad example to young ones. it's interesting how we can say to not do things around kids but it's o.k. for us to do around other "adults". Tangent- anyways...Cedric has done a good job selling bikes for cannondale for sure but it's because of his God given talent and his ability to put the hammer down at races. I know lots of folks who buy bikes because of skills and not because of personality. It just so happens that he has fans for both reasons-just like I applaude Minaar for his outspoken faith in Jesus. There are always two sides.

The point is you don't know him, you just know the perception of him. Everyone said Palmer didn't care, didn't train, partied to much. Pretty much the exact same stuff as they say about said. In reality he did train, he did care, and he won.

Perception doesn't always equal reality. Kinda like those reality TV shows really aren't reality

True, he has wanted to leave...but he did not ask for a million bucks. Your rep has been drinking too much egg nog. He approached GT and his "high" offer was not even in that realm. It was not even six figures.
Maybe i was smoking too much, well, it was allot, not a million but im pretty sure it was over 250k.

Id pay 250k to ride like him and have those forearms!

Oh how I love the outspoken Christians. BTW if you haven't noticed Minnar shows off just as much or more then Gracia but since he says he goes to church that makes him a better example for the sport? Ive met Minnar and he totally is one of the downright nicest, laid back pros I have met. Ive seen minnar getting down with some alcohol in videos unless he was drinking some sort of tea. What do you call his intro to NWD 4 where he is loading the steve peat beerbong? That must be a horrible example to the thousands of young kids who buy the NWD series. Just because you buy into Cedric's act even tho you've never hung out with him that gives you no right to say he is setting a bad example. What do you think the sport is professional golf? Last time I checked it consisted of lots of pot smoking, skate shoe wearing, bro talking riders who could care less about their image. Get your fundemental crap off RM.

For the record, I have met Cedric a few times at Whistler and at Red Bull as well as other events. I have watched him sign autographs for endless amounts of kids and his patience never showed any signs of wearing thin. He is with the Lisa Lefroy and has been for at least two years now. I would think that if he were promiscuous she'd have to know and if she chooses to be with him in spite of that, that's her/their prerogative. However I think the playboy thing is more just Cedric being open about the fact that he loves women and I think Lisa is comfortable with their relationship enough to know that he's just looking (like all guys do whether we admit it to our women our not). I believe Cedric is the best possible spokesperson for our sport since he blends both top-level racing and freeriding seamlessly and contributes his awesome personality. He has an incredible sense of humor and an easily approachable vibe. I think if his attitude conveys one thing, it is not sexism or an inflated ego, it is that he knows how to get the job done right without forgetting the most important thing, having a good time! Cedric takes himself and our sport as seriously as one should, if you look at guys like Rennie who are equally talented most of the time they are less than open minded or approachable. Most people need to be that way in order to be on top of their game but not Cedric, he somehow manages to work hard and play hard at the same time.

A good example is at this years Garbanzo downhill race in Whistler, Cedric was rumored to have said he was going to leave the torture to Nathan and focus on defending his win from last year in the Air DH on A-line (a much more "easier" race than Garbanzo). Well come Garbanzo race day guess who's up top ready to take his run? That's right, Cedric. and guess what else, he won by a decent margin. You can't party hard all the time and then go out and win a 15 minute long downhill race. PERIOD! And if you can, then more power to you!

I  Cedric!

I rode the lift up with Cedric at Whistler. He was a totally awesome guy, down to earth and not cocky in the slightest bit. He knew all about our local riding spots... Cedric is sick. I then tried to follow him down A-Line... nope.

Thanks bro, I love you too. I have noticed minaars showmanship and I applaude his abilities-that's not what is up for debate. His character and actions in the public eye are, and it happens to be why he is a better example to the kiddies. Alcohol is not illegal and He is definetly over the age. I would call his intro the by product of having to be in the nwd series-he's not doing anything wrong or illegal. Christ partied all the time. I don't buy into Cedric's act, I just think it's immature and empty. and actually by putting himself in the public eye it does give us a right (whatever do you think we are all doing on this thread?) to voice my opinion of his behavior. Are you saying pro golf is tame? It consists of whatever it is you want to see. Do you go out looking for people with different lifestyles? No. You see who you want to see. It's not MY fundamental crap-and what are you trying to prove by talking to me that way? You don't know me! What if I was writing under a surname and you were really talking to Mr. Showstopper himself? You don't. Calm down.

You may meet me in the real world and find that I am a good friend. Don't burn bridges over the internet with people you've never met. I'll be around the nationals this year if you want to meet me. My name is my name, I'll be at the cannondale tent, with Cedric.

Very true. I have never met you Heath, and I may not agree with what you have to say... but from talking to Ben and Loren they all have a high opinion of you. If you are at the otter this year, I'll introduce myself.

Im sorry your right I don't know you Im just going off of what you said earlier. You said cedric's showmanship, partying lifestyle sets a bad example for youth and then you come back by aplauding minnars said faith in christ. There is a huge difference between minnar and Gracia but I would still consider minnar into the partying lifestyle. Its just really hard for me to understand a lot of black and white christian views. Im sorry if I was out of line but as you said before I too have the right to voice my opinion as well.

Heath,

Seriously, there is nothing more true in this life than to have fun and be yourself as long as it comes at the expense of no one else. Cedric is just being Cedric. I think you are taking this waaay too seriously.

People often confuse playfulness with immaturity, there is a big difference. My point is that Cedric is neither immature or empty. I am sure you are a great guy and a good friend but I don't understand what motivates you to judge someone else, isn't that Jesus' job and his only?

Actually, I have met him on a number of occasions. He is at all times an entertainer. But his act is often sexist. Maybe it's a euro-culture thing but I find statements like "I tink I will find two ugly women to bang tonight. Then two pretty women tomorow." offensive.

That said, I think he is one of the most talented riders out there.

Biker...my feelings on this have nothing to do with my faith. But way to toss out personal attacks. Nice job, yeah for you.
Respect for women is something that SHOULD (but apparently isnt) be common to people of faith and those without.

The offensive quality of that statement is debatable and not quite sexist. It would be worse if he was raggin on ugly women, but apparently he's an equal opportunist. Talking about getting laid is not a sexist comment, it goes both ways. Everyone want to get laid! I believe sexist would be down talking women and I would never condon that.

But we're all allowed our own opinions arn't we.

You mean that he said out loud that he wants to have sex with 2 women at the same time. Well, what kind of man thinks that way! Oh yeah, all of us.
What you quoted him saying is a joke and should be taken as so. Otherwise,
you should walk around the races with earplugs in, cuz it gets alot worse than that.

Hi Sean, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one bro. I belive that there is a lot more true to this life than having fun. Cedric is being a product of consumerism and professional athlete elitism. I am sure that in his character he is an extrovert that loves social interaction but he is influenced by how people recieve him and how the masses recieve celebrity. I don't need to "judge" him. His actions reveal his heart. To state the obvious is not judgement. Your standards for maturity may be different than mine and I accept that, but I would hope that you would not respect his behaviour and his public displays of womanising if he was doing his little acts towards a woman you loved and cared for. Remember, all women are someones sister or someones future wife or someones future mom. Respect has to be there even when it's not easy. That's being true. That's being a man. That's integrity and value of human life.

You sure that isn't just jealousy?

Cedric rules. People are correct saying he isn't the model spokesman, and that sometimes he can be offensive. SO what. This is mountainbiking. Go watch ice dancing or something if you want perfect little wussies being all nice.

Everytime i have had the chance to meet him, hes been very cool, and entertaining. Its nice every once and a while to have a guy who will say what he means, and wants, instead of some polished rhetoric from a script hes forced to read.( motocross winners speech anyone?)

Let cedric be cedric, its what makes him so damn good.

BTW, I plan on winning the lottery soon, and starting a bike company. I will then hire cedric, and tell him to be as silly as he wants. I would write into his contract that anyone that gave him **** for being sexist or silly, he should moon on the spot. No questions, just ass in your face. Terrible example for the kiddies? Yeah, proabably. But it certainly would be funny, and it definately fits the image and personality that DH really is.

Fun, silly, ridiculous stuff.

Heath, I think you are right about agreeing to disagree. But I still think no matter how you label it you and others are judging him unfairly and negatively. I think it's cool that you fell the way you do about your beliefs but I don't think it's cool to uphold other people to YOUR standards, especially when the majority of the world disagrees. No hard feelings, just calling it how I see it. :)

I don't know, not to be all prude but it sounds like Cedric talked about women like they are pieces of meat to be used for his pleasure then tossed for the next eager beaver. Sorry but that is offensive to many people and I bet Cannondale would agree..they sell bikes to women too, and most would find that comment offensive. I'm glad they don't micromanage the guy but I can't believe they would condone that kind of stuff.

Plus in my opinion it's just stupid. Yeah, C-Dog can get laid so what? Grow up, there is nothing impressive about banging everything with a heartbeat just because you can, and it sounds like he wears it like a badge of honor. Way to be a role model.

DHS, thanks for the backup, the the balls are offlimits. No offense. ;)

What blows me away is the fact that nobody seems to take in to account the one sect that seems, on the surface anyways, to come out the worst in this.

The women.

Why is it that the assumption is made that Cedric is just "tossing them away" like peices of meat? Has anyone considered that if they do sleep with Ced, they might actually want to, and might actually just want a quick fling wiht a pro athlete? Why is that so tricky to understand?
