well apparently Cedric's condition is a little more than a hurt shoulder.

just got the word (I was told pretty quickly, so i hope i got it all right) that cedric punctured his spleen, bruised/smashed his kidney, and broke his scaffoid. He's doing alright, should be released from the hospital & should be headed back to California tomorrow.

apparently he was going for the win.....or die trying.

Guess his captain america suit didn't work so well

Ouch!

Just when we all started to think he was invincible!

Goes to show if it were any of us we'd probably be :dead:

Bummer. Well, good that he's on the mend, but those internal injuries are serious biz.

Healing wishes to Ced.

my buddy ruptured his spleen and was only in for 3 days so that is pretty normal it just depends on the severity of the laceration.

it seems like this year was the year of reconing for the rampage. there were no serious injuries until this year cedric, lance canefield and wade all got damaged

Spleens are rarely a "huge" problem. Unless its really serious they will usually just tell you to lay low and rest. If its real bad it will kill you so theyll need to take it out. When I ruptured mine they said it was in 17 pieces when they took it out. And just to give a visual of how hard I hit the ground the doctor was quite suprised that this was even possible to do this severly on a bicycle because a spleen is the consistancy of a wet sponge. Immagine throwing a wet sponge at the ground hard enough to make it explode into 17 pieces. Even if Cedrics is that severe he will still heal quickly and be back on his bike within a month or two.
Hopefully its not too serious and he will heal up quickly.

Damn Heikki, 17 pieces?! When, where....?

I've been told the opposite about spleens rarely being a 'huge' problem. Or rather there is tremendous risk until the hermatacrit levels are back to normal as monitored in ICU.

that sounds quite painfull, heikki. a friend of mine ruptured his bull riding, and ended up in the hospital for quite some time.

It was after a dirt jumping incident exactly 2 years ago almost to the day out in Durango.

Actually yea I should rephrase that. When you rupture it usually they will keep you in the hospital overnight to monitor your vital signs and hematotcrit and make sure nothing is bleeding so much that it wont heal on its own over time. Most cases Ive heard though the patient is let out the next day and told to rest. Ive never heard of a spleen being serious enough to remove after the first night. Basically if he is in stable condition now he should be out of the hospital in a few days at most im guessing. I was on the operating table within 20 minutes of be being carted off the ambulance dock, and had lost over 3 pints of blood internally in the first 30 minutes after the crash. Internal Injuries are never a walk in the park but if he hasnt had surgery yet Im guessing he wont. But with that on top of the kidney injury thats alot of trauma to the inside of his body so who knows.
