Keep it clean, lube it regularly, blahblahblah. All this I know, and it doesn't matter what you lube your chain with, if you don't lube your chain. I get all that, however...........

Lube or wax? Just wondering................................

I lube my chain with lube.

Not really sure what lube I use, I think its in a yellow packaged bottle with a flower on it? My bike gets wet all the time and I was it enough that it is in a constant cycle of being lubed. I found the waxy type lubes always gunked up after a while and were harder to clean.

Wax might make sense for Tahoe when it is really dry but it is next to worthless for wetter times of the year or wetter areas. Since you have to strip all of the wet lube off to get wax to work it is too much of a pain for such a limited application.

I use tri-flow and I am a clean with lube kind of guy. No solvent or removing the chain ever. If you have to do those things, just replace the chain. Lube and clean before every ride unless it is dry but not dusty.

One more note, that green stuff Shimano puts on their chains is the best lube ever. Don't touch a Shimano chain until that stuff is completely gone.

Front Range, dude...
Last shop I worked in, the owner/head wrench (Who was a God with tools...USA Cycling tried to get him to work the Olympics one year...) used 30 weight motor oil on chains and pivots...this was over10 years ago, and it still trips me out today. Floor of the shop was a hazmat site...but he saved a ton on tri-flow and other Fancy Dan lubes and such. Shop went under a few years back, now he is apparently out of the business and working as a heavey equipment wrench somewhere in teh Mid West...
