Hi, I have a spare 06 DHR lying at home which I plan on making into a Single Speed DH-rig just for fun (and for maximum lightness :happydance: ).

Do any of you have any experience/recommendation for a chain tension device that can take 8" of travel?

Alternatively, do anyone know how to go about converting a XTR rear derailleur into a SS chain tensioner?

Cheers,
Mats

Here's one way...

You'll need a mechanical disc brake cable.

1) Feed the cable through where your barrel adjust would be on the derailer, feed it so that the part of the cable that would usually sit in the brake lever is in where the barrel adjuster would be.

2) Get the cable tension right so that the derailer aligns with the gear, tighten it down.

3) Set the limit screws.

You can switch steps 2 and 3. I have always done it that way and it works.

Hope that helps

Hey mats0, the info you seek is on this forum.
Go to the ''single speed'' section then check out ''single speed dh'' by phutphutend.I think you will be impressed.

I've been also thinking how to make my Glory SS bike, even bought NC-17 chain tension, but didn't have time to work on it, really.
matsO, what are going to use as cassette converter? gonna but one or build/assemble?
