I am just days away from buying a brand new Scott reflex 20 for $650. but, I don't know if thats going to suit my style. I found a Jamis Komodo 2.0 in the classifieds on RM. it looks like everything is in good shape except for a paint chip on one of the tubes. http://www.ridemonkey.com/classifieds/cat-3/ad-1988/?epostid=2209#post2209
I think that is the type of bike that could handle pretty much anything i threw at it. the Scott on the other hand probably wouldn't handle jumps too well. well at least thats what the reviews said. The scott is pretty small too and i am still expected to grow another 6" so i want something that i could ride for a while. the Jamis is only $450 and that would save me lots of money to buy riding accessories: pads, helmet, maybe even my all mountain forks i've been wanting. if you could give me your input that would be great.

how tall are you now?

I wouldnt worry about the paint chip (unless looks are real important), and also wouldnt worry about a new fork right off the bat. forks are expensive.

it looks pretty good to me (the komodo), but i havent shopped around the classifieds or craigslist, either :thumb:

I am 5'7" or 5'8". i would feel better spending less money incase i grow out of it. I probably wouldn't upgrade unless i broke something. Looks really dont matter to me, if anything i would rather have a used bike that someone has already scratched so i dont have to suffer through not wanting to scratch it. if that makes sense.

makes sense to me about the scratching :]

is your current bike in good shape? have you thought about upgrading that?

Im just over 5'10" and ride a 16.5" hardtail and wouldnt want to go much smaller. I ride some rough stuff and prefer smaller frames. At 6' the komodo is probably going to start feeling pretty cramped

My current bike is a 24" diamondback coil and is not worth doing anything to. the scott reflex20 is a small, so it is even smaller than the Komodo. If the guy with the Jamis replies to my email, ill proably go with that one for various reasons. such as size, price, durability, etc.

go for it. Otherwise you may want to keep looking because you can find some alright stuff for ~600. Send me a PM here or post in another forum (freeride forum maybe?) if you have more questions, I keep forgetting about this thread.
