Ok...I have a gripe with this...

I went skiing at Bromont today. (The word "Bromont" is the DH content for this thread). It would seem that they have erected (heh...erected), barriers at the entrance of the parking lot and are now charging for parking. They are already charging $45 for a lift ticket. And they most certainly do NOT have the goods to warrant charging that much. And now parking? It's like you're entering East Berlin now with the gate thingies they've installed.

I'd likely not even blink if they increased the price of the lift ticket to offset the "loss" from free parking. I mean most cars have more that one person in it. Each one of these passengers is likley going to buy a lift ticket right?

It just chaps my ass that they truly are trying to rape you in every possible way.

How much are they charging for parking? I can't remember the last time I went skiing and didn't have to pay for parking. Plus, if the added revenue keeps the lifts turning when it counts, DH season, it's a small price to pay.

guess they went to Tremblant and got the idea.

i could understand if they had premium spots (like T) that were pay, but yeah, how else are you going to get there. Wonder if they charge helicopters....

btw, i really like the new side with some nice steeps and trees. But for a full day i'll go to Jay Peak.

I paid $53 for vail....so yes, $45 is a friggin HUGE amount to pay for bromont to ski. Pay for parking? I don't think so, especially not at bromont. You pay at vail copper etc if you want to be real close to the lift, otherwise you walk from a slightly further lot or use a shuttle bus.

Screw bromont.

what Bromont is banking on is how close they are to montreal. Sorta like the way Mt St-Sauvaur totally rips people off with what is probably one of the top 10 worst hills in quebec.

But, B has to make up for all those millions they've inversted. Kinda like how Tremblant costs as much as Whistler/Blackcomb.

i went to jay yesterday and i was impressed
there aren't any ski guns or big pipes running up and down the slopes just lots of real snow
but screw paying for parking that was one of the things that steams me so much about mt snow every year with their 10 dollar day or 30 for the week deal. i dont mind paying 5 bucks at p kill to camp though

And that's exactly why we went there. The distance from home/terrain ratio is pretty favourable. But the non-free parking was a bit of a shock.

And it's weird. What WAS the bike shop is now a cafeteria....

Ya, bromont pushed some heavy investing this year. I would bet we will see a major decline in the cycling program as the new ski development takes root.
What makes you think that? Wouldn't continued support of cycling help pay off the winter investment while also helping the local economy over the summer? Unless the bike trails prevent summertime ski development, or they lose money on it, I don't see a reason for them to discourage cycling.

have to agree, and Bromonts been on the record trying to push their 4 seasons approach to the mountain. I think if they would of been thinking of pushing biking out, they would of done so already.

Running the cycling program at bromont is fairly pricey. It is also no longer their main focus, apparently they are attempting to push tourism and walking/hiking trips on the mountain. The loss of the bike shop was the first step.

This is all based on info from people who work there, but generally biking will become the last thing on the list of priorities. They run it now because the chair has to run anyways for the waterpark, but the trail maintenance etc is already starting to fade.

biking was always last on their priorities IMO, and only has existed for the reasons you stated. I've actually found they did more maintenance these past summers, mostly in response to the high water damage this year.

The bike shop is also their ski shop, so wherever the ski shop is, thats where the bikes will most likely be.

but we'll see anyways. Perhaps Tremblant will attempt to reopen one day. It took forever for Whistler to develop a proper bike program.

Well that doesn't sound too promising. It will suck of Bromonts DH scene fades away, the trails and crowd were a good time.

Bromont should have a midget sitting on each chair of the chairlift giving you hot cocoa in the winter and cold gatorade in the summer.
