Nothing says baller like top of the line shoes for a squatter.

Story is this: Bought last years models in black a few months ago for an obscenely cheap clearance price after my poor three year old Garnes were so stretched out my foot flopped around inside. Fastforward to May and the new shoes are coming apart. Took them down to the LBS where I picked them up and they promptly ordered me a new pair of the current year shoes. Sick!

Do you expect the dental floss they used on those shoes to last?
The floss on my last pair outlasted the soles...actually pretty burly, exact same retention system on a lot of snowboard boots. I'm pretty fond of it...tighter fit than velcro/ratchets.

I'm jealous. I almost bought a pair this year, but the price scared me away :(
My Dominators have probably been the cheapest shoes in terms of price per year of use I've ever had. They hold up so well, I'm willing to pay a bit up front on them.

NICE!
I got a set of them in the red Vernice before I left my last gig, kind of wish I'd gotten a set of road to go with 'em.

What pedals are you running?
Red was a little flashy for me. Black seemed more low key, insofar as shoes that retail for over $400 can be low key.

Various Crankbrothers models over a bunch of different bikes.

Agreed 100% on flash, but I'm more of a flashy guy, so...

If you don't have either the Sidi or CB shoe guards.
I can't find the Sidi ones on their site, but here are the CB ones:
http://www.crankbrothers.com/shoe_shields.php?itemId=

They will save your sole from breaking, the CB pedals tend to wear down the sole where they contact, and I've killed some awesome (Nike Cairns). Carbon soles are pretty susceptible to it...

Reminds me of when I was living in South Miami, kind of on the edge of the ghetto, but definitely in the lower income section of town. I was a poor college student and could not afford a car, let alone any new flashy bike parts. Not that I was all that confident that the bars on my windows would stop someone who wanted to break in and rob me of said bike stuff.
But somehow, a couple of my neighbors, who also had bars on their windows, had a Jaguar and a Benz with riiims.

There is a message there somewhere.

More of a flashy guy....I thought you were king of flash???

Just kidding bro.....Hey arent you the guy that has the bright ass white cycling shoes?

Anyways, serious question, I can never get a pair of carbon shoes to last, SHimano, Speccy, Sidi......None of them. Seems either the sole, the sides, or the backing around my ankle always wears out rediculously fast. Now I know you know your shoes James, so I am asking you if you think it could just be the stiffness of the shoe compared to my wide ass feet tearing the shoes up? Or could it be somehting else possibly? I mean most I got out of a pair of carbon shoes was six months, my 65 dollar Shimanos last me a good two years each set so far...... I would love to have the nice shoes, but I have to figure something out first.

Some nice looking shoes. I think my next road upgrade will be some nice shoes and pedals but so far my old Shimanos are unfortunately working to well for me to upgrade.

I do have a couple of pairs of white shoes, not to mention the gold ones too...plus I'm working on a new custom set that should be pretty off the hook.

I'm surprised that you can't get Sidi to last for you, those shoes are pretty damn bombproof, and the parts that do wear out are replaceable. We had a pair with 100,000+ miles on them at Interbike last year, the guy was still wearing them.
Are you getting the "Mega" version for wide feet? Either in Sidi or the other brands? The warranty on a pair of Sidi road shoes is the "usable life of the shoe," which is vague but pretty much means if they fail they'll be taken care of. Wearing out is another thing. MTB is a 2yr warranty.
The Sidi Genius 5 or 5.5 are probably the best all-around road shoe out there, and they're available in wide. I've been using my old, kinda beat up white Genius 5s with the plastic sole lately, not the flashier carbon goodies, it's been really nice.

Sidi Mtn shoes....The sides were wearing out. The mega was too wide.

Christ, you must be easy on shoes. I mean, they're durable and all, but after about 3.5 years my current Dominators are pretty beat.

Not even close. The soles are falling off, I've replaced the buckle probably 6 times. I ride went/dry, hose them off, etc. I'd guesstimate they have near 90k on them. 100 miles/week 98-99, 200 miles/week 99-04, 100 miles/week 04-06.

Wore the holy piss out of them. And I complained when I spent $250 in my new pair. ha.
