I've got the ZF 8HP in my Volvo as well. A fine transmission indeed. My only complaint about it is that its workings are indecipherable due to everything being shrouded:

I would make sure to get run flats.
Scam IME. FIrst, if you actually use it as a run-flat, as in with no pressure, it destroys the sidewall and you have to buy a new one. Then you have to buy either 2 or 4, depending on if you are 2wd or AWD. If you were able to keep pressure in it, either due to self-sealing (I've had a few punctures do this) or fix-a-flat, a normal tire would have worked anyway and you didn't need that run-flat. If it's a catastrophic failure, which is very rare with modern tires, then a run-flat won't help at all. They destroy the road-feel and handling and are just a way for the manufacturers and tire companies to make more money, playing on people's "spare tire anxiety". Modern tires are great and unless you are running them down to chords, they should be just fine. A good sealant kit will fix most anything you'll encounter and if it doesn't, chances are it's something a run-flat won't help with. If it's a performance car, life is too short to not experience summer performance tires IME (and get a set of winters or all-seasons).

The one time I've actually had a flat, my trunk was full of stuff for college, which I had to remove to get to the spare. I bolted it up, only to find out the spare was flat as well. I had the car towed to a walmart and got new tires. I imagine the odds of me fixing a tire on the side of a highway are lower than calling AAA and getting a tow.

The M doesn't even have an option for a spare. They just assume you are going to call AAA, apparently.

Most of the current BMWs don't, not just the M. There are some aftermarket kits you can buy though.

My Golf R came with non-runflat 19" low profile tires and no spare or jack, just a bottle of fix-a-flat in the toolkit. A spare tire can be fitted and some people do that, but I agree for daily commuting use that's not necessary. Maybe if you did a lot of long road trips through rural areas, it would make sense to carry a spare.

For my R, I traded a park spoke tensiometer for a compact spare that a friend got with his Alltrack. He upgraded to a full size spare. I spend way too much time on dirt roads in the mountains with no cell service to rely on sealant or AAA.

Runflats suck and spare tires are overrated.

If I get a flat within the city, a tire place isnt more than 1 mile away.

If it happens in the middle of nowhere, a 12v pump and gel should buy you enough time to reach a tire place 99% of the time.

For the other 1% (catastrophical failure), just call a tow truck. It has only happened once in 10 years to me (off roading/track driving etc). No need to worry about something thay might happen every 10 years

I found a nail in the middle of one of my 305s when I took it off for winter a few months back, the gummy soft rubber created a perfect seal and no air was escaping, so I had no idea how long i'd been in there. Those have some seriously sticky rubber, but I find this is more common with all tires, most punctures won't leak out very fast due to how strong the tire is overall and if it is, just put some sealant in there. Got the puncture fixed.

I’d have one again if lane splitting were legal here, or more likely the less slow Yamaha rendition of that idea.

It's looking pretty likely that I'll be ordering a Sprinter. This will mean that in April or so next year a 2012 Chevy Express half ton AWD cargo van with, let's guess, about 63,000 miles on it, will be available. Anyone interested?
Only going for RWD Sprinter?

I'm all-in ~$30k at this point. New M5 is $100k. New M3 is $70k and not a manual. Am I pissed that I had to spend a ton of unexpected money up front? Yes. Do I still want the car? Yes.

And a new Chevy SS is 40K w/bombproof LS3.

But...if you got the M5 to a state of reliability...that would be a hoot and I would approve. You must have bought the one in the video.
