chelsea: "stfu"
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The college student who got a stinging brushback from Chelsea Clinton when he asked about the Monica Lewinsky scandal said Wednesday he's a Clinton supporter who was trying to get her to show "what makes Hillary so strong."

Evan Strange, a Butler University student who works on the school's newspaper, The Butler Collegian, said he had asked Chelsea Clinton her opinion "on the criticism of her mother that how she handled the Lewinsky scandal might be a sign of weakness and she might not be a strong enough candidate to be president."

It wasn't clear what aspect of the former first lady's actions he was referring to. Before she was fully aware of President Bill Clinton's relationship with Lewinsky, Hillary Rodham Clinton said allegations about her husband and the White House intern were manufactured by a "vast right-wing conspiracy."

Strange's question at Chelsea Clinton's appearance Tuesday at the school brought a stinging rebuke from Clinton's daughter. "Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Chelsea Clinton said during the campaign visit for her mother.
she's an adult, yet chooses to answer like a child.

What was childish about it?
she lacks either the willingness or the ability to express herself as a woman. a woman on the campaign trail for her mother.

ffs, she's 27 & well educated. nothing is as arrogant as dismissing legitimate questions with such a flippant attitude. isn't like she was asked "what was around your dad's ankles when lewinsky blew him - boxers or briefs".

that's the way i see it. i'll tune into rush in 1/2 an hr to see if i was correct in my analysis.

Yeah, I wish she would have kicked him squar in the nuts.
while that's fine & perhaps an appropriate response for an elbow-rubber at ladies' night, this falls foul of the proper rejoinder from a campaign rep.

unless, of course, we can now say once again chelsea's being pimped out by her mother

Front Range, dude...
She turned a chance for an intelligent, well thought out answer that could boost her mothers sagging hopes, into an emotionally charged, immature retort that will no doubt further sink the SS Hilary.

Thanks Chlesea, what do we owe you?

May I point to every answer Bush has ever given to every serious question he's ever been asked...and then point out that you've been quite a staunch supporter of the man?

Or would that be unkind of me?

I thought a lot about this, and if the questioner had asked, "how did the Monica Lewinsky scandal affect you and your family?", STFU would be an appropriate response.

But this is a scandal which involved perjury and impeachment, both serious legal actions which did affect Hillary's creditability and leadership.

Possibly, the better way to ask the question was to avoid mentioning Monica Lewinsky and bring up just the legal cases. Less interesting though.

i think it's ridiculous that she is campaigning for her mom and yet she won't talk to any members of the press. she probably just doesn't know how to spin the tough questions that would show the downfalls of hillary.

Considering the fact that if the question was indeed legit in regards to Hillary handling pressures of legal cases and high profile issues and the effect it has, it deserves an answer. Hillary is the one who has said that her "experience" has made her ready to be president from Day 1. The fact it was her daughter who wa asked is irrelavant, in as much as anyone who steps on a stage speaking for a campaign should be prepared to answer tough questions.

I would have asked her how tough it was to deal with a mother who may or may not have contributed to knocking off people who could have exposed whitewater information, but that's just me.
