It continues to amaze me at the lengths these and other countries have gone to control information. I have always taken for granted some of the freedoms we have in this country but more and more lately i'm greatful for what we have.

I know the US does some of it and we may never know how much but not to the extent these countries have.

Their forms of government depend on an uninformed citizen. Just love Dear Leader, Supreme Leader, etc.

While our system is far from perfect, we are blessed (or cursed) with too much media and information. We may not like Fox News or MSNBC but we at least have a choice to turn the channel.

Iranians seem to be going apesh*t at the moment. Maybe its all that desert heat? I should have run for president under the platform "A/C for EVERYONE!!!"

Seriously tho, time has a good writeup about the issues with Iran's election:

The fact that the Iranians are going crazy is what got me thinking. I love the fact that they're rebelling in such a restrictive nation. Also the fact that Microsoft, Cisco, and Yahoo have all agreed to aid the Chinese in monitoring their citizens has really sat on my mind.

For me, this is what's most indicative that something is up with the election. I don't think there would have been this kind of response in that kind of oppressive environment if they were just upset about losing.

Agreed!
Then again the Chinese rebelled and they put that rebellion down and now they young Chinese know nothing about it.

At the same time, there are enough anomalies with the election process that warrant the official investigation (see the Time article I posted). If these irregularities didn't exist, I doubt that the investigation would take place just because so many people are p!ssed and rioting.

It's funny, it just so happen that 1984 (audio book) came up in my playlist yesterday so I started listening to it. Amazing how much foreshadowing there is in that book.

You want some funny shiz...go look up the comic "Bloom County" from the 80's. Read 'em, digest 'em, laugh along with 'em. It's eerie.

History repeating and all that...wonky...

I'm totally floored by the pictures, videos and twitter/blog accounts coming out of Iran, almost as much as the lack of the MSM to cover it. Yes, part of it is because Iran is slowly kicking out journalists, but give me a freakin' break. It's no wonder that there's a CNNFail movement, even if WSJ is exploiting it.

I saw a blog last night from the UK blasting US media in general for not covering it. BBC actually has some decent footage available.

Not meaning to take offense but Im Iranian and that place has doesn't have much desert or heat for that matter and Iran is quite big. There are HUGE mountains throughout Iran, some beautiful ski areas, and they even have a downhill national series. There is more heat in Arizona than all of Iran combined. Get your facts straight bud.

Your definition of "heat" must be different from mine...
