Christmas... 6" 66rc worth it for 2001 Bullit?

Hi, so Christmas has rolled around again, and now I am faced with the urge to buy stuff.

I was toying with the idea of sprucing up my old Bullit. I have my sights set on the 6" version of the 66rc...or maybe even a Z1, given that my Bullit is older, is it worth it to spend the money on a new fork? I've hated the Jr. T it came with since day one, but never motivated myself to get a new fork. I just dealt with it.

I would love the adjustability of a new fork.

The Bullit itself is pretty much in good condition..I actually haven't ridden it much lately, since I bought a hardtail earlier in the year, but the idea of adding some some new life to the Bullit is appealing, and something that would make me ride it more.

Thinking ahead, if I decide to move on from the Bullit (maybe a year or so)and buy a new frame, I'd have the 66 already to put on the new frame..

I am also looking at the Manitou Firefly Plus as well..

Either way, would I be wasting my money if I decide to get a new fork?

Well if you are looking to trail ride the bike ....another SC fork might be better all around weight and height-wise.
Mostly all around riding, but I do shuttle some dh runs, and hit up Big Bear and Northstar. I don't get crazy or anything.

I guess I was looking at the SC's because a lot of the DC's out now start at 7", and I figured 7" might be a little overkill for me, and that my Bullit lacks the headtube gusset that the newer ones feature..

given that a 6" 66 will be as tall if not taller than most 170mm DCs, i don't think you can count on it stressing the head tube any less.

You can run a Monster-T on those pre-gusset Bullets !!
Superheros did !
I have a Z150 on my 04 Bullet & really like it-I just wish is was a little lighter..Guess that's why there are 66's and New 6" Z1's..

I'd look at one of the 2003 Sliders on sale in the buy/sell, or one of the new Fox 36s if you're willing to risk new model stuff.

There's the boxxer with adjustable ride height this year, too...

You could get your rear shock upgraded, too...send it to Push for a custom rebuild or get a new model (avalanche, Romic, Manitou, Fox DHX whatever...)

I'd go Z1 @150mm. And I second on getting the RC tuned/Pushed. You aren't getting the most from the bike yet.

I like the Z1 in that I'd think a 6" & 20mm thru axle Bomber is all you need. Plus, the axle->crown 21.5" which is damn close to ideal for use with that Bullit. ( I always felt 130mm wasn't enough fork height/travel for the Z1/Bullit combo). Until now it was DC or nothing. But, the 6" SCs are here to stay now. So do it.

Here is something about the 66rc. Given the 575mm height it may be a little too tall. I've only seen one Bullit running a 66 so far. But, it was being used for DH only. The guy liked it & it looked OK in pics (66 seems like the perfect fork for a Bullit in the pics). But, when I did a mock up of my Bullit and set my lower crown on my DC fork@ 575mm I was instantly put off. It seems to raked to be stable. The shuttle might help. But, otherwise it is pretty slack in the range of <64*. Just make sure if you get it that you can mount it and get your $ back.

I would look at the Zoke All MTN 1. It sounds like the perfect single crown, do all fork.

I think the 2005 Z1FR would give you the most versatility. Those things feel like DH forks anyhow, it's basically the same as the Z150, but a bit lighter. A 6" 66 is going to have the axle to crown of a much taller DC fork, will make it harder to climb, but Z1s are really "do it all" forks, FR and DH is no problem, not too heavy for XC type stuff, etc...
