Up sh*t creek, without a paddle
Interesting article about the US grabbing terror suspects abroad. I have to say that if I was a citizen in another county and was grabbed on a case of mistaken identity, I would be pissed at my own government for letting the CIA operate there.

There was a big stink about this not too long ago (too lazy to search for the thread that contained it...although I have the time, I don't much care.).

It's an international pissing match. Shrub wants to play games abroad under the guise of national security without letting the countries, that actually have the authority, do anything about it. And what have we learned recently? Sometimes the wrong people are apprehended by ham-fisted, knuckle-dragging goons that couldn't tell the difference between Marc Anthony and Mark Antony. It's really not that surprising...unfortunately. And until Europe gets off it's collective ass, starts the 4th Reich, and we're all singing O Tannenbaum nothing will change.

Why aren't you pissed that Iran is doing the same thing?
Uh, Because they're not?

Seriously, this is some fvcked up sh1t. Germany and Italy are right to pursue this, and George is being his normal douchebag self about it. Way to make Europeans hate. I hope they do arrest these fvckers.

Iran doesn't do rendition(at least none that we have heard about). They outright took UK soldiers captive under the claim of trespassing. I wouldn't doubt that 90% of renditions that happen we don't hear about. Can anyone actually tell us who is Gitmo or Abdu something or else(graib?)? We need to have a grab and go program. I think we should operate like the Isreali intelligence service. The problem is the Musad have good intel and ours sucks. I bet we grab the wrong people 50% of the time. Just as an example of how good the Isrealis are...there was a guy from Canada selling Sadam a cannon that could shoot a really long way...long enough to hit Isreal. They wacked this guy in a hotel elevator in Europe and then denied doing it....that is how operatives are supposed to do it. And I can probably track down the article if someone wants to argue it.

Did this pet project give any of you the heebie jeebies back in the 90's when it was started. Or were you satisfied that Bill would just direct them to tickle the captured with goose feathers?

The difference is Bush has the CIA operate without the knowledge or permission in the sovereign borders of people who are supposed to be his allies. What a fvcking dick. It's just fvcking rude. If what you are doing is so flimsy that you have do it without asking your ally... Seriously. And looking at the record, the record is the people who have been pulled are more often than not totally innocent.

Seriously how pissed off would YOU be if Italian agents kidnapped an innocent American, on your own soil without the permission or knowledge of you law enforcement agencies?

Fvck these people. They deserve punishment.

Why do you think the Italians and Germans didn't know what was going on? I thought that was one of the points of the article...

And they simply won't be punished, as you know. For one, the Germans simply can't get their hands on them to do it, and America won't turn them over. (For good reason...if a country started selling out its intel officers, who are paid and tasked to break other countries' laws, for doing so, there'd be no way to run an intel service afterward...)

Second, the Germans in the executive sphere wouldn't allow it for reciprocity's sake. They have operations in the US and elsewhere that would seriously suffer if the US stopped cooperating or decided to, say, arrange for some people to find out something that they wouldn't know otherwise.

Not to say the US hasn't inflicted massive damage on its own ability to operate/co-operate abroad by ham-fisting a lot of things in recent years, mind you.

i love how the us wants to capture terrorists being harbored in other countries, but we won't let other countries capture criminals that we are harboring in the us.

If you live in another country and somehow wind up on the CIAs radar, chances are you're a douchebag. Or, intel got the wrong address. Either way, I don't care.
