today's classical track of the day is:
Richard Strauss - Vier letzte Lieder: Beim Schlafengehen
karita matilla is the soprano, the berlin philharmonic is the orchestra, claudio abbado (known for his mahler interpretations but good at other stuff, too ) is the conductor.
the "vier letzte lieder", or "four last songs" are among my favorite pieces in the classical repertoire. strauss has a tendency to make everything so rich that it becomes unpalatable -- compare to the austerity of bach -- but it works superbly in these vocal works, especially with the flexibility of matilla's voice.
