today's classical track of the day is:

Richard Strauss - Vier letzte Lieder: Beim Schlafengehen

karita matilla is the soprano, the berlin philharmonic is the orchestra, claudio abbado (known for his mahler interpretations but good at other stuff, too :D) is the conductor.

the "vier letzte lieder", or "four last songs" are among my favorite pieces in the classical repertoire. strauss has a tendency to make everything so rich that it becomes unpalatable -- compare to the austerity of bach -- but it works superbly in these vocal works, especially with the flexibility of matilla's voice.

Like the song of the day from Narlus, the singing killed it for me.

Not that they are comparable but.....

huh, interesting. i really like how she sounds.

as for today's "divulition" or whatever it was titled, i think i'd like it better if they played in a hall with no electricity :D
