I get what you're saying KidWoo and agree that a good bike flick needs to go well beyond being a replay of the event. That said, I think there's also something to be taken from MFrider's point of view which I think is... A successful race film really does need to find a way to reveal more to the audience about the event, the scene, the riders and the journey in between.
Clearly Clay Porter already is well aware aware of this and this is I think what makes his films so much more than a highlight reel and allows them to be watched again and again. Live broadcasts, webisodes, and team-focused marketing videos are great and really allow us to 'be there', but good films like Clay's stand the test of time and give far greater permanence to the events.

As for Porter's last film F1RST, I thought that was the best race season documentary yet. Great segments and some fantastic personal stories/behind the scenes with the pros. Gave a great window into their personalities and what they were thinking, as the season unfolded.

Wasn't his last film The Tipping Point? Which had all his trademark awesome footage and editing as well as good backing music, except without the zombie-like narration. I thought Tipping Point was actually f'ing awesome, but some of the stuff from FIR5T was hilarious because of just how ridiculous it was. The actual footage was great. With the Tipping Point I think he finally got the documentary/drama he was going for without it coming across as contrived.This thread IS Socket's Kryptonite...

I agree with you in part.....
But The Tipping Point was released April 2009_the season ended in September 2008_and was a very good movie. A diferent point of view of the season....very interesting to watch.
the interesting bit for a 2009 season movie, is how clay will bake it. He seems to have found the sweet spot for the formula applied from Between The Tape, F1rst and then Tipping Point. UNless he wants to spin the handle on teh sausage machine again, and thus generate another similar flavoured product (not that it's bad to bgin with), he might just be tempted to try something new. Whilst not in the same direction, I'm salivating at the thought of Follow Me. but props to Clay on producing awesome films off what is essentially a one-man solo mission from capturing to editing and producing.

I made this yesterday with Real Player and then ConvertXtoDVD software and the result was amazing. A good 2009 race movie made at my home.I presume I'm not the only person to have nabbed all of the finally files from mpora and combined them into one hour+ feature-length 09 race season video?
Step by step:
1. download real player
2. open each video in HD format
3. pass the mouse over the video and click download(if you have a slow conection , be patient)
4. download convertxtodvd software(or any other similar software)
5. open convertx...select all 6 video files(in order, of course)
6. and yes...be happy,your 2009 race movie is done with a great image quality.

Finally was my first "project" in this realm. During the season , I've made compilations of the best webisodes (Dirt TV , MTB Cut etc ) from each WC round , spliced them together , converted to DVD and now have about 9 hours worth of the 2010 season to watch on the big screen. I'm waiting on the last episode of the Atherton Project to be released so I can finalise that project and burn it. Same with Trek World racing.The quality and quantity of footage available is too good to go to waste !
