I WANT TO TURN THEM OFF!

...or delete them altogether. It blurs my screen and fattens the letters, and in general gives me a damn headache. And for some reason, I have a program that keeps turning them back on....

So, HOW do I get rid of it? or disable it permanently in the registry?

Go into Display properties (right click on desktop or go through control panel), click the Appearance tab, click the Effects button. There's a checkbox that says "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:". Change the drop down box from ClearType to Standard, hit OK, and click apply. Then go back in and uncheck the box entirely, hit OK, and click apply. Decide which one you like better, and use that

I've done that, but there's something that keeps reinitializing it. I use standard as it looks better on my screen.
