Can anyone help. I have a superlight and it makes a horrible clicking noise. Myself or the bike shop guy cannot locate the source of the noise. The bike shop guy says it could be the frame that is making the noise. He said they are called creakers and it is somewhat common. Has anybody ever heard of this?

Try to isolate it. There's a lot of parts on the bike that can creak. Does it only do it when you're pedalling? When the front shock is compressing? When the rear shock is compressing? When you're sitting down? When you're pulling up on the bars?

Flip your bike upside-down and push and twist the front wheel while holding the handlebars still. Does it creak? Pull the fork off, prop the headtube on something and compress the rear end a few times. Does that creak? Things like that can help you isolate the location of the sound.

When all else fails, pull every threaded and grease-worthy part off the bike and grease the snot out of it.

I turned the bike upside down and moved it around until i heard the clicking. I even put my ear up to the frame and it sounded like it was coming from the top tube. can the noise be originating from the fork (for ex.) if it sounds like it is coming from the frame.

Don't try to identify it by listening, sounds can be easily transmitted through the tubing and will appear to be coming from whatever part of the tubing amplifies the sound best.

The only way to isolate the sound is to go part-by-part. Otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts.
