ok guys. Couldnt find to much info on the new clifcat tankass or sidestep. Lets hear any info, pictures, anything. Anyone have it set up for street? like this.
i talked to the clif cat guy and he said that they stopped making the hardtails in order to focus on their freeride/DH bike. this was probably 6 months ago, but still.
the latest tankesses were/are tight!
not too heavy, nicely designed, very flicky and rideable.
a short fork and 24"s and it's almost bmx geometry.
or at least it felt like that on the last one i tried out.
not really any less of a chance to ovalize, and there's actually less welding area too... there are a few frame makers out there who actually despise the beer can headtube...
I can see the reasoning on a big FS bike, like one designed around a huge Totem 1.5 or something, but not on a bike that will only see ~50-100mm of travel.
and hmm, 15" chainstays are nice, but looked shorter to me.
28# is killer too... but I have a bit of a hard time believing that with the build I see in the pic.
id expect the cromo tanks weigh in at close to eight. this one weighs less than 6 id guess, the forks, front rim&hub and seat/post keep the weight low bro.. i get people asking+lifting it at the park constantly
I know what you're sayin' about the 1.5, I really dig mine, but it's ironic, I ride a sinister splinterMX with the 1.5, but now recently FTW has been speaking out about all of the downfalls of the 1.5 and how he is no longer using it in his frame builds... Unless you use some ridiculous RAD tubing or that of very large diameter on the tt/dt, you lose too much welding area by going to the larger beer can ht, compared the smaller reg. 1 1/8" that gets more tube miter wrap = more weld area...
