More great news. This (positive feedback loops) is the sort of stuff that for ages the IPCC models haven't been taking account of because countries like the US — actually pretty much just the US as this stage — won't countenance that incredibly likely effects of climate change are actually happening until they are in full swing. This head in the sand attitude is lethal for humanity. Well, shocker, now they are happening and we're up shit creek. If this turns out to be as bad as some people think it might be we are pretty well screwed. Time for large scale geoengineering projects NOW.

You sure you want us humans to do some more large scale engineering projects?.... See west coast ablaze....

Fixed that for you.

No, I’m afraid you just revealed your prejudice and ignorance. Actually China leads the world in creation, innovation and deployment of renewable tech. 60% o the world's solar panel are made in China, Germany are next. China has the most installed renewable capacity of any country. Their per capita carbon footprint is 10 tonnes less than than the US (16 vs. 6). More than that they actually have a decarbonisation plan they are sticking to and exceeding.
The US leads the world in total historic carbon output by far, so make no mistake the US has a huge responsibility to fix things. Burying your head in the sand and complaining about overpopulation as the root cause is total, entitled BS. 4.5% of the world's population and the majority of the damage, and still being willfully ignorant about it; makes me sick.

It's really really not overpopulation. The world richest 10% make 50% of all emissions, and the 1% cause double the emissions of the poorest 50%! Just let that disparity sink in. That argument is just rubbish. There is more than enough food, energy and shelter to go round, but it is wasted profligately by some, and never reaches others.

It's a few per cent of people who consume massively, massively above their 'share'.

These people are literally standing there, arms full of money and unnecessary stuff and toxic shit spewing from every activity they do, whilst a thousand people around them, have almost nothing, and they're saying the problem is 'too many people'. No, the problem is you're a shortsighted cunt.

It's entirely technologically possible for the current population of the world to live inside the Earth's 'carrying capacity' with solar, wind, regenerative agriculture and other existing renewable tech. A good portion of the world is moving rapidly towards this, but maybe not fast enough. Meanwhile, a notable subsection is totally ignoring the issue and continues to buy 6.3L V8s to go shopping in.

Can we at least agree there are way too many shortsighted cunts?

Apparently somewhere between 40 and just under 80% of Crypto is mined with renewable energy on any given day because, shocker, it is cheaper.

65-odd% of all crypto is mined in China, nearly all near huge hydro plants that sell power super-cheap when they are not directly in demand. China has possibly the most advanced grid in the world too (1.4Mv backbones for high efficiency) and can shuffle power around very effectively for the most part. so the market is quite dynamic.

The fact that Edward Teller, the ill-famed ‘father’ of the H-bomb and reputed inspiration for Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, was an early fan, should really tell us all we need to know about the desirability and safety of turning to climate tinkering as a solution to global heating.
Nope, that kind of thinking and ‘appeal to prejudice’ makes him just as bad. We will absolutely need an all-of-the-above set of mitigation’s the way things are going. This guy has good motivations but his singular focus, and idea that there is one school of thought that will provide solutions is just as extreme and is never going to work.

My ATM network just announced there will be retrofits and software available to withdraw from bitcoin.
Any of you understand how that would work?
They are unclear, shall we say.

It’s actually pretty simple; You would have a BitCoin wallet associated with your normal account (so your name really), just like another account but it just holds BitCoin. You will be able to withdraw fiat currency at the going rate against that balance.

There will probably be a screen with your BitCoin balance and whatever the value is at that second’s exchange rate is next to it for ease of use.
Given that we seem to be entering a deflationary period for the USD and that institutional investors are pilling into BTC, you may be better to keep as much as you can afford in BTC.

Crypto CO2:
17,000,000 t pa and falling
Worldwide CO2:
36,000,000,000 t pa and rising

NZ 34,000,000
US 6,677,000,000

Crypto is almost a big a scam as fiat currency.

So a thing you acknowledge as a scam, produces additional measurable TONS of CO2 to create what is essentially ethereal bullshit out of nothing, is okay because you are benefiting from it?
