Hopefully Hollywood won't screw this one up. The book is an excellent read and is very meaningful considering I am a Marine and have visited the island of Iwo Jima twice.

For those of you who don't know, this book is about the flag raising at Mount Surabachi, that happened during the assault of Iwo Jima island in Japan. The book tells the story and background about the men who participated in the second flag raising that turned into the world famous photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal.

I love that book! I read it about 6 months ago and it was very well done.

For the movie, I hope they don't make the flag raising a typical "hollywood" version. I would like it if they were honest about the picture being of the SECOND flag raising.

Nevertheless, I'll still go see it!

I recently watched the documentary on this over on the Military channel. Pretty burley sh*t for sure. Slightly funny in that the commanding officer realized the levity of the moment and wanted the 1st flag that was raised preserved. Crazy thing was there was still significant fighting happening on the island while all this was happening. Only other thing I can say about it was there was some seriously brutal fighting to take that island.
