After reading the post about shortening the length of the cables on avid disc brakes to make sure they dont get stuck in the rotor made me go out and check mine... they were just long enough to get stuck in them. So now i need to cut them. The problem is i dont want the cables to frey, and i dont have those metal things they clamp on the end to prevent them from freying. Does anybody know anything else to use to keep the cable from freying??????

Your LBS will be happy to provide you with a ferrel cap thing. Or... if you pry the existing one off carefully you can use it again. I really like my Avid Disk. 
If yer feeling curmudgeony, use beeswax.

Just heat and wet the end of the cable with solder. It never frays, and can often be drawn through the housing without causing any damage.

aaaahhh b.s. frayed cables are cool. It gives you an excuse to switch to hydraulics.
You could also just double the cable back on itself and fasten with a zip tie...

I have the greatest solution!
Get a twist tie...you know the ones on the bag from a loaf of bread. make sure its the plastic kind and not the paper kind.
Twist it around the cable end enough to completely cover the fray or the end of the cable that will fray.
Ok, now get a lighter and melt the plastic enough that it bonds to itself...
Tada, instant ghetto endcap
