After reading the post about shortening the length of the cables on avid disc brakes to make sure they dont get stuck in the rotor made me go out and check mine... they were just long enough to get stuck in them. So now i need to cut them. The problem is i dont want the cables to frey, and i dont have those metal things they clamp on the end to prevent them from freying. Does anybody know anything else to use to keep the cable from freying??????

If yer feeling curmudgeony, use beeswax.

Really. It works great (til the beeswax wears away).

Can also be used as thread locker. I used it to glue some grips on last night...

and on and on

I have the greatest solution!

Get a twist tie...you know the ones on the bag from a loaf of bread. make sure its the plastic kind and not the paper kind.

Twist it around the cable end enough to completely cover the fray or the end of the cable that will fray.

Ok, now get a lighter and melt the plastic enough that it bonds to itself...

Tada, instant ghetto endcap :)

I have a pic here of my bike but its not a closeup of the dreailler so...
