its a manitou product (they have a tendency to fail).

Don't know many people riding the cloud 9. Know a lot of people on the dhx air. Know a lot more people on the Roco air. I once had the opportunity to do back to back runs on a Roco air vs a Roco coil. Aside from the weight difference and initial stiction, I could not notice the difference at all. Great shock. Everyone I know that has one swears by it.

Cloud 9 is completely rebuildable buy anyone. No need to send it away to get the seals done etc... I would trust it for sure.

uuummmmm... no
Manitou in general doesn't have a great track record when it comes to consistent products. I've seen more broken manitou forks and shocks than any other brand in the decade+ I've been riding and wrenching. But then again, when I did chance upon someone riding one that was in good working order, it felt incredible. This is pretty much the general consensus of the majority of riders and mechanics I've talked to. Perhaps you were just one of the lucky ones who had a manitou that didn't explode.

My experience with Manitou is fantastic. The parts work, they hold up.

CAVEAT - **ALL** the Stance/Splice forks were utter crap and failed at such a rate it generated a huge bias against all of their forks.

CAVEAT 2 - Any fork with SPV sucks massively.

All companies have mistakes/failures/QC issues (leaking 6ways etc..), but outside of the above - my experience (personal and observed) is that their stuff is great. TPC+ is traightforward and works GREAT!

As for the ISX-6 -- I have NO experience, but the web/hearsay through the 'years' is that its a very good shock.

I saw a lot of failed shermans too.

Rear shocks with SPV sucked as well.
I havent seeny any non-spv shermans fail, but thats me. Most people dont like SPV shocks in general, I look at that as a 'different' failure. I always likeed my 5th -- not perfect but it did what I needed to well.

My 2003 Sherman Firefly is still going strong under my 250lbs as a freeride fork. Rebound 'blew' in 05 but was fixed and returned quick fast, free (incl shipping)

I do care for my stuff well, but that should be a given IMHO.

I def think (know) the 'Manipoo' rep is mostly due to internet bs and viral 'opinion'.

The DHX feels amazing, it's easily one of the best out now. If you want a shock to compare to the DHX look at the Double Barrel, not the Cloud Nine. I've never been a Cloud Nine fan and it's not a FR shock. The DB however, is pretty amazing.

Saying all mountain and light freeride means nothing without context. How about helping us out:
What bike?
What kind of trails?

And make sure you realize how much a shock is vs how much a new bike is. There aren't too many bikes out there that I would upgrade a shock on. There's not a whole lot of value there.
