but the story reads Possible abortion ban appears headed for ballot

and then:
Abortion-rights activists have said that if the Personhood Amendment passes, it could lead to laws making abortion and some forms of birth control a crime.
i assume they mean ru486

unless this amendment has wording which restricts the effects of its passage, this could carve a path to significant reduction in both abortions and pregnancies.

adoption mills could also be an up & coming cottage industry

If this passes, I'm going to law school.

Then, I'm going to get a job as a prosecutor in Colorado.

Then, I'm going to scan church bulletins for announcements that someone had a miscarriage.

Then, I'm going to prosecute the husband and wife for murder.

Genius!

Why the hell are there so many religious zealots in CO Springs/Denver? I've not yet figured it out.
CO springs is the headquarters for Focus on the Family and several other evangelical organizations.

Lots of Home Depot's too, which facilitates compound building.

Don't include Denver in this!

And CO Springs just has some national HQs of religious groups. Not sure how that started, but now it's a magnet. CS should just break off from the state and start a new one with whatever retarded laws they like.

felons can't practice law here - soory - (but are still allowed to defend themselves in court???)

an obvious point to be made: what does one do w/ a severely handicapped hatchling, or a rape victim?

language allowing for exceptions must be in order or this will have as much teeth as those for whom this is intended to protect

81 regional & nat'l hq's according to wiki (fwiw)

but pound for pound, i believe SLC or hamtramck (detroit suburb) are more religious.

oddly, less than half of us attend church services regularly. i believe this is due to so many religious organizations have chapel at work, which also includes churches themselves. add to that 5 military bases and a handful of colleges, both of which have low attendance.

we have some of the best kick ass mtn biking locally & on the front range - 2 hrs from resorts too.

no, i don't work for the chamber of commerce

Dear sir, I think you have me mistaken for someone else. I am an upstanding member of society.

As far at the rape victim or fetus doomed to die in pain 5 minutes after being born because of a fetal abnormality, **** em.

If the woman didn't want to deal with the pregnancy, she shouldn't have gotten raped. Or prayed harder to not get raped. The fact that she did get raped means that God knew she wanted it. That dirty whore.

depends on how it's worded. if it defines humanhood as when sperm meets egg, than from that point on anything that prohibits the egg from going to full term (ie, The Pill, which prevents the egg from embedding itself into the uterine wall) would be illegal. This is the same with "Plan B", which is nothing more than a high dose of the pill. RU-486 is usually not described as a contraceptive.

I think you mean significant reduction in abortion and increasing pregnancies if certain types of birth control are now outlawed...

edit: yup, from the article

article said:
Backers of the measure defining life as beginning at fertilization...
yup, this would outlaw the pill, along with any other type of contraceptive that uses hormones for regulation.

http://www.bcm.edu/crowd/?pmid=1406

What is the Pill?

"The Pill" is also called a combination oral contraceptive or COC. It is a small tablet that you take once a day. It contains two synthetic hormones, an estrogen and a progestin, that are very similar to hormones found naturally in your body, but in much higher amounts. When you take the Pill:

* You stop ovulating (ovulation is the monthly release of an egg from the ovaries).
* The mucus in your cervix becomes thicker and blocks some sperm from entering your uterus.
* The lining of your uterus becomes thinner so that a fertilized egg cannot implant on the uterine wall.

ah, good catch. i was thinking implantation, but if it's fertilization, this'll never pass. think of the complications for invitro alone: storage & disposal of fertilized eggs will be regulated to ruinous expense, which i believe it's already at now for the vast majority of people.

i still maintain decreasing, as i'm sure the most commonly used methods are barrier methods, not "oh ****!" abortifacient methods. education & warning of "dire consequences" will probably become more prevalent in public schools, decreasing spreading of seeds, but not legs.

i could be wrong: we're talking about dirty little teenage whores after all

edit: i see you added stuff; okay - fair point

I can't wait to start bombing fertility clinics for keeping all those persons in test tubes and eventually discarding of them.

My favorite quote from the comments:
wonbyone said:
Wow, the liberal pro-abortion drool is sure getting deep on this page. This will have nothing to do with birth control, just the abortion pill at most. Those lines are nothing less than fear-mongering. And the public is tired of footing the bill for irresponsible people killing babies they made the "mistake" of getting pregnant with because they could not control themselves. If women want full control of their bodies stop sleazing around with dogs that could care less about you and stop getting pregnant by people you are not married to! Responsibility goes a long way, and a pure woman to marry is a REAL treasure. Reality is tough and they should have to deal with it. And the boys/men should pay if they want to play.
My favorite pro-life point of view by far is the one that thinks a reasonable and sane punishment for the unforgivable sin of pre-marital (or extra-marital) sex is to bring a child into the world and impose it onto the perpetrator(s)... and the child itself.

The whole abortion argument has absolutely nothing to do with the legitimacy of a fetus and everything to do with the Christian Right attempting to legislate morality, they could care goddamn less about what is or isn't dying, as shown by their everlasting penchant for weapons and war.

If we take away abortions and birth control, no one will have sex before marriage and everyone will be repressed like us, right? It's a culture war being waged by people with the mental capacity of third graders. It's fvcking ridiculous, and I still can't understand how anyone gives these fvcktards any sort of platform to stand on.

While I agree with everything else you said, you have to admit that they deserve the right to be heard, just like the KKK.

An attempt to end-around a valid SCOTUS decision will most likely be smacked down pretty quickly in court.

But hey, maybe they'll end up in one of those "activist" judges' courtrooms...

I haven't followed this that closely. Can you elaborate or link something?
taking a quick look at post 22, we find the words & phrases
- whole
- absolutely nothing
- everything
- their everlasting penchant for weapons and war
- no one will have sex before marriage
- everyone will be repressed like us
- people with the mental capacity of third graders
- these fvcktards

not what i would point to as a beacon of balance & profound understanding of the topic & positions. i think this, as well as the extreme right, should be categorically dismissed from discussion. it's his type that projects an absolutist attitude upon me (i'm not 100% against abortion), and likewise there are those in "my camp" who believe those who receive abortions should be exterminated w/o question.

Yeeeah...An incredibly pissed off 20-something radical liberal is probably not your best pro-choice spokesperson.

Good try, though. No utterly off-topic attempts at wit this time around?

For the record, I don't see things in black and white, but legislating hypocritical morality, as is the Christian Right's agenda, is as bad as legislating segregation. I could give a damn less if you're for abortion or against, but I don't see why you have to care so goddamn much about what other people do with their own bodies.

I don't understand this thread. Not sure I ever did.

It's a nice day outside. Think I'll go find an outdoor cafe for lunch and read Rudy Rucker.
