Why is it ok for a coach to quit a school to go to another, but a student can't go play for another team? I mean, if the coach specifically recruits a kid and then quits or gets fired, shouldn't the "contact" between institution and student be voided?

Pffffttt...trying to insert rationale into the world of colligiate sports is so passe.
A player can, he just has to take a year off. Not so bad. It's what prevents teams "trading" players every year like the NFL. It's supposed to be about education first.
That is the funny part.
COllege football is all about money.
