What are the most common injuries from mountain biking? I would have to say;

1. sprained ankle
2. broken collarbone
3. wrist

One other question. I just sprained my ankle from falling off a 6 foot high skinny. I though it had dislocated. I have hurt my other ankle before many times but this is by far the worst. My entire ankle turned black and blue and swelled up huge. I went to the Dr. and he is saying stage 2 sprain with possible dislocation. Its been a week and it still hurts pretty bad. I have been icing it and keeping it elevated but man this thing is not getting better. I have been popping Aleve too. It doesn't help I stand on it for 12hours a day at work.

How long did it take for you guys to get your ankles back to normal? Im thinking Im out for the rest of the season. Any words of wisdom?

Having played years of street ball sprained ankle are easy to come by. I had many stage 2's on my right and I would say 4-6 weeks before I could play up to par. I could push it after 2 weeks but the pain was bad and dunking was out ofthe question.

I would say your three as well. Those are by far the most commong injuries I hear of

I'd say those are all pretty common. As for dealing with it, RICE :D

Around here it seems to be separated shoulders.... then broken/sprained wrists, then ankle problems.
Yup to that although I would add ribs in myself too and move ankles (broken) up a notch around here the last few months. :rolleyes:

usually i hurt my ankles hucking, because my feet are too far up the pedal, i find that it doesnt hurt at all when the spindle is right below the heel of my foot.

It seems like concussions aren't too rare, either.

round here it seems to be the unidentifiable minor shoulder injury, everyone i know who rides a bike seems to moan about one of their shoulders on a regular basis, never quite bad enough to goto the doctors, but never seems to go away.

Is your Doc an athlete? Does he have any idea what the hell a skinny is? In my experience, you need to see a sports medicine orthopedist. I have found that Ortho's who spend their daiys listening to old people complain about their hips have a hard time diagnosing injurries for people like us. The "Does this hurt?" tests don't mean jack s***. I had 2 misdiagnosies of a torn ACL b/c of doctors like that.
I am not a Doc, but it sounds like you could have torn something. I had 2 doctors and a couple of paramedics tell me that my knee was only sprained. I am not really bitter about it. Just trying to help you avoid a similar situation.

AC seperation seems to be super common. Kinda like busting your collar bone only not as bad. If you don't get surgery, you get a cool bat wing type nub on your shoulder!
