You should be able to order a compact crankset for a BB30 shell. Besides Cannondale, FSA is coming out with one: http://www.velonews.com/article/70432

I'm a huge fan of compacts. I think if I were in the Midwest I'd think differently, but I've got some pretty decent mountains around here, and I can use all the help I can in getting up them...
Compact for me too. If I stayed in the valley floor regular gearing would be fine but all the short steeps around are a lot more comfortable with a 34 up front.
Alp d'Huez is an unrelenting 10 miles at 8% but it's not uncommon for 2-3 miles at 14-15% around here and climbing isn't my specialty. Hell, I don't have a specialty nor can I maintain a tour like 15mph at 8%.

I have two Drive cranks, Both 105's On standard 53/39 the Other Compacts with 50/34.... For the most part I leave the standard on, most of my riding is pretty flat, and I think the loop through Oak glen is about 9 miles of climbing so I just man up and ride it, but when events like Ride around the Bear comes up, I will be puting the compacts on, 70 plus miles of climbing I will need all the help I can get then.
